I cannot help but marvel,
At the twists our paths may take.
They make one man a hero-
Another, rogue or rake.

To one give fame and fortune-
To another, memories...
In the latter category,
You’ll find wanderers like me.

I’ve seen the blue Pacific-
Walked the beach of Waikiki,
I have ridden high-up ridges-
Like a wolf, so wild and free.

I’ve lain beneath the prairie skies-
And dreamed my share of dreams...
There’s scarce a place worth seeing-
That I’ve not already seen....

But all I have to show for these-
Are my grey hairs, and scars...
I picked up somewhere on the road,
In accidents and bars.

And still the wanderlust within-
Says, “Pack your gear and go-
And see another mile of road
Or one more rodeo.

Dream another dream or two-
Beneath a cloudless sky...
You are the things you say or do-
A drifter till you die”.

Reminds me of the Ricky Nelson song "I'm a Travelin Man".  He talks of his pretty polynesian baby on the beach at Waikiki...James

Dear Troubadour, if you ever release a book of your work, I must know. There are so many folks who would be thrilled to have a book of "your" caliber on their shelves and often in their hands. You are to poetry what Woody Guthrie has been to folk music...an enriching experience, to be sure.

Could a greater miracle take place than for us to look through each other's eyes for an instant?......Henry David Thoreau
