Listening to every heart

Cherokee Maiden's Tears

Glistening, gleaming, long black braids
streaming down her slender back
bronzed blade of disrobed shoulder
where she carried secret knapsack
there, to cool pooled water's shore
to sit, to hold in limbo her trust
there willow whispers nevermore
tears shed from shamed disgust

quit herself of native camp,
distanced she from warm fire
maiden Cherokee thereby sought
to drown her fierce and inner desire
to sooth her wearied nerves and then
to purge away the thought of him
O she the maiden Cherokee sought
to fight this, the love he brought

White Man, a terrible plight
ravaged her heart this very night
blues eyes spiked her eyes of coal
spears thrust to her very soul
sought she by the cool pool's shore
to douse this lust forevermore
willow whispers nevermore
but fire ravaged her very core

slipping into the water's abyss
fevered dreams brought no bliss
mind rampant of White Man's kiss
no good could come of this
Mother, Father would then decline
to call upon Spirits of Indian kind
to shed their daughter of this descent
into Hell's gate she was bent

Cherokee Maiden's tears then fell
into the pool and there still dwell
for maiden she gave up to him
and in dark of night, they still swim
under caliginous sky and pool's haven
meet the White Man and Cherokee maiden
there circles can be seen on pond
where their love lives on and on.

Karilea~

It is of an embracing love you pen.
So beautiful and there were many tales
of the maidens and the men of white who
were overswept with their love of one another.

Wonderful images jump to mind -
you've gather sparks of loved one's hearts
and flung them across my day.

Thank you for this offering.
I will share it with another soul-mate.
What precious honor you do me, my sister.

Sudhir, your comments are too kind...there will be many more lovely tributes to our Marge, but that you would rank this one up there with the finer ones that are bound to be penned pleases me much...

She is a definite friend, and I would invite everyone to visit her website...it speaks of her character and spirit as I could never do justice...and she has such a warm, welcome heart...

Karilea-This is such a beatiful poem in itself but the heart of you and the one you wrote it for makes it all that more special.  I have a southwest room with some of Marge's poems framed and matted in it and she knows this but now you will be on that wall as well.  Absolutely beautiful my friend.
