Helios pauses, as if to listen,
...on crest of distant hill,
Gathering in his burning rays,
...at heaven's windowsill.

Solemn silence, in velvet pall,
...o'er bier of dying day,
As evening's hush falls on all things,
...a calm on land does lay.

Song of the mockingbird rings forth,
...in praise of coming night,
Haunting call of distant loon,
...replies in fading light.

Nature calls to creatures wild,
...my children, heed my call,
Vespers of a setting sun,
...as night on land does fall.

Above the West's horizon,
...fleeced scarf of vapored cloud,
Watched over by lone vestal star,
...moon's sliver does enshroud.

The sky enfolds in beryl shrine,
...from depths of heaven dyed,
Helios clothed in calm eternal,
...slides into eventide.

Mike, eventide my favourite time of day, made even more special by this poem.

Very lovely piece, Mike, loved this stanza especially, great last verse!

The sky enfolds in beryl shrine,
...from depths of heaven dyed,
Helios clothed in calm eternal,
...slides into eventide.

As I read this aloud, it brought to me a delicate, almost "hushed" feeling. There is a calm in your words.

Beautiful.

Mike~
There's a kind of hush that comes about
all over the land -

'Nature calls to creatures wild,
...my children, heed my call,
Vespers of a setting sun,
...as night on land does fall.'

So very lovely is this salute to the evening hush.

you have written a beautiful verse, I enjoy poems where the 2nd and 4th stanza rhyme.

Mike- first, i LOVE the title... fits the poem perfectly... you've created an aura with this... it's hard to explain but, it's very structured and rhythmic and full of imagery... i had to look up "bier" and "beryl"... so... thank you! not only did i read a fine piece of poetry, but also expanded my vocabulary... hehe

thanks for the read... enjoyed!

Kethry... the calm of sunset and sunrise are special times, glad you read and enjoyed.
Corinne...thank you for the very lovely. actually, I started with the last verse (my favorite also) and worked backwards, which I often do..
Denise...thank you ever so much for the breathtaking, hope ya got it back...*smile* want you to be able to converse with that boss of yours.
Claire...it is a hush time of day... and I compose my poetry by saying it out loud which sometimes brings me rather strange looks, but I can only write by sound and feel.  Thank you for the beautiful.
Marge... I truly appreciate your reply as you are truly one with nature, as so clearly shows in your writings.
Irish Rose... thank you kindly for reading and replying.
doreen... danke for the very gracious reply.
I wish it was just my vocabulary that is expanding... *smile*

The becoming of the becalming feeling at eventide is most remarkably penned by you, Mike...
