If You Were Here

No rhyme or reason
to die before your time
all for a mere dime

Cob webs entwine around old fishing line
a box of hooks, an old how to bass book
tell of old times

A worn recliner holds an imprint
mama rubs the spot, intent on remembering
the feel of you

Your hat hangs on a hook on the wall
like a picture in a frame ...
you fought in vain on that hot summer day
now nothings quite the same

Remember our old fishing spot?
still gets hot in the summer
wish you were here, I'd bake you a cake
Happy Birthday Daddy

Thanks Mark, Marge,& jmlee,
Daddy was killed in 1983. A result of a robbery attempt. Today would be his 72nd birthday.

Blooming Rose-

you touched my heart - and brought back memories - I lost my dad at 23 - a heart attach - after living with a bad heart for 30 years - it got him at 62 [[[hugs]]]

This brought immediate tears to my eyes...my father is 83 and in ill health. I dread the day he is gone.
We take so many people for granted until it's too late to tell them how much we cared..

I am glad this touched hearts. To lose someone very sudden makes you realize how important it is to show our loved ones we care.

Oh, this is so tender and touching...

well-penned...

The title drew me in as I am a big fan of Pink Floyd, but the content moved me a lot...

Wish you well...

My regards,
sudhir

Sudhir,
I am glad you like this, but I have to admit I am not familiar with Pink Floyds music. Just the name of the group.

Deb

A wonderful poem - terrific descriptions, melancholy, and love.  It makes me hope my children will write of me in these terms someday.
