The Blackened Pot

One would admit, a sight mundane,
black pot atop a burner's flame
in dreaming scene of sleeping child
when slumber's moment should be mild

But in the dark and breadth of night
when vast, the shadows passed from light,
enfold the mind and haunt the heart
and bid one's innocence depart

Arises, fully, fear and dread
from dreams within that little head
where voices stir and faces blend
with deeds not meant to comprehend

So after daylight's demons toil
the blackened pot will steam and boil
Alone, a fan of flames below
Inside, a child should never know

Claire~

'So after daylight's demons toil
the blackened pot will steam and boil'

And bless their little hearts ...
mommy kisses 'em and makes it all better.

Neat rise to the challenge, my friend.

Denise, thank you. Yes, the nightmares are still vivid.

Marge, thanks. If only she had.

Victoria, thank you very much for reading, and welcome to Passions. Not everything I write is this dark, I promise.

Goodness Claire ... I had chills in thought of what demons tore the innocence from this young child. Beautiful flow to this ... a challenge well met!

Best wishes,
/Kit

Claire,
this is eerie and terrifying. Well done.

Kit, I know just what you mean. Thanks for reading, and thanks for letting me know.

Kethry, thank you very much...I just thought of my most frightening memory and wrote it out.

Claire,

Perhaps a little dark, but very interesting...I loved the wood stove.
