I was wondering many years later if my Ex still considers me a jerk...Actually I was much worse than that but the poem would be censored or deleted.
Not funny to her but I have tried to look at myself and laugh at how stupid I was...nonetheless the burden is tremendous when a jerk receives his just reward...believe it.

Ex-jerk Alert

It sure is easy to say I'm much different today.
The past is the past and I'm different at last.
Yet in my mind I can hear you say....
no way Jose'...once a jerk always a jerk.
Jerks are here to stay.  Jerks never go away.
And so consider this an ex-jerk alert.
I was insincere in my past.
Today I am totally determined
to be jerkless at last.
And dear, I realize that it could be possible
I may still be a jerk as I was before
and I need to prove to someone new and to you
that I'm not a jerk anymore.
I understand that my words can sound very sincere.
Let my words and my actions make it perfectly clear.
I am no longer a jerk my dear!
In fact...I am an ex-jerk.
So please let me prove it to you.
Honestly I am sincere.

Sincerely,  The Jerk

It's never to late to learn from past mistakes!  If not for her, then for another! Thanks for sharing!

Okay, I do like this different point of view---grins--but I must wonder, would ya have changed your irky jerky ways if she had not have left?  Not trying to be a smart ass, methinks this might be something I really need to know...

James~ It's funny, I have a hard time picturing you a jerk at all......you have such a kind heart.......maybe you have changed from what once was.......I'm glad to know at least one man changed his ways.   -SEA

oh god...I do hope, my soon 2 be ex will be penning something equally as damaging in the years to come...*evil grimace*
I decided today that I would survive, I would buy that damn Lexus I want within the year, and this business will not be liquidated. I WILL MAKE THIS WORK. Without the Jerk.

And yes..I am smiling.
Loved this btw..

james I can't imagine that you were ever a Jerk, maybe she just saw what she wanted to see. More fool her, you have the kindest heart and soul, and you're just too nice to be a Jerk. So I'm smiling at the idea anyway, take care

There is NO WAY you were ever a jerk...nothing you can say will ever convince me of that...some women just dont know what they have...

one of the astounding revelations of maturity is that at some points in time we were the jerk.... and that in some situations we will be again...yin and yang...

Just the other day I was thinking about how lucky I was many years ago to have a woman that loved me and I loved her...only a jerk would let this opportunity for love slip away...I did not appreciate the beauty of my wife...I did not appreciate how soft and lovely she was...I was not sensitive to her wants, needs and desires.  So do you know what happens to jerks...they lose lovely precious women that are one of a kind...and beautiful memories stay in your heart til what seems forever...and broken hearts last a long time...and regret has stuck around to remind me that I was indeed a jerk..,
I yearn for an opportunity to redeem myself...to once again find a woman that truly loves me and I will love her in that moment and for eternity...James

..so glad I read this one, it would've been my loss today, had I not....I LOVED IT!!  I laugh at myself all the time, as you have here...funny, yet kinda, sorta sincere. I REALLY like the phrase "Jerk Alert". Good read, great poem.   marcy
