Warm fallish day, it had been cool
Labor day past - the kids back in school
A long sandy stretch lay deserted before me
I knew it was there but I could not see the sea

The dewpoint was past and the air hung like lead
The fog wet my face and dripped from my forehead
Sandals in my hands I trudged through the sand
All sounds were muffled the crying of gulls was bland

The sea whispered to me, on the beach flapping its lips
"Where is she now, the one whose fingers gripped?"
I had no answer I walked silently on
Till I came to our rock where we'd sat in the sun

In my mind the box played that CD we loved
And my heart's eyes displayed your skin white as a dove
I gathered a blossom to put in your hair
Against the dark strands like you it was fair

So the sea asks its question again and again
I tell it you'll be here - but I don't know when
A love such as ours is worth all the wait
So I will be waiting even at heaven's gate

~Love one human being purely and warmly, and you will love all. The heart in this heaven, like the sun in its course, sees nothing from the dew drop to the ocean, but a mirror which it brightens, and warms and fills.

Seams we both had fog in our heads at the same time. Now we are posting together.
I enjoyed this read, wasn't sure how it would end, sad , but beautiful writing

Liz -

your dew is far more attractive than my fog  --any day in the week - but thank you for the thought

Martie-

I love the shore for the peace and serenity it gives me -I go year -round - when there's ice on the sand-- when there's fog or rain or sun - it is my inanimate friend. Thankk you

"And my heart's eyes displayed your skin white as a dove"

Bill, you captivate the reader with your descriptive writing. This line, in particular, brought an admiring smile.

Wilfred~
Sometimes I sit on the seashore
as the fog comes rolling in ...
continue into the night
until the sun rises to absorb it again.

Oh, I like this.

I kinda figured you lived somewhere near Gainesville - and therefore not far from the coast - and of course it would be almost unthinkable for a poet not to love the shore.

Thanks Marge ~G~

Somehow the "sea" seems more romantic than the ocean, I don't know why. It certainly gave the right touch to this one.

I was born and lived for many years without conscious memory - of the Atlantic or the Pacific - once experienced - some real memories in my 20's - I kept being drawn back  - like the lover you can let go - for me - whatever I call her (and she is female to me)
for I love her in all her moods - she remains more than friend
