His love was like a thread of gold,
It brushed against her cheek.
It wound it's way around her spine
And caused her legs go weak.

And binding two together then,
It tightened round her heart,
And made it seem impossible
That they would ever part.

And through the years they faced ahead,
The good times and the bad,
The thread remained the strongest link
To everything they had.

Until one evening, much as this
Although no word was spoken,
As, soft, she turned to face her love,
She knew the thread was broken.

She placed her hand upon his lips
And smoothed his whitened hair,
And though his eyes were open wide,
In truth, he was not there.

Now, one week forward from that day,
The funeral was over.
She slumped into his favourite chair
In effort to recover.

And as she bent to stroke her cat,
Sat, purring, at her feet,
She smiled as she espied
A golden thread.....upon the seat.

How moving this was to read...your telling of this bittersweet story is just lovely.

This is without a doubt the sweetest read for me this weekend and there have been many so pat yourself on the back.  I loved this from beginning to end and the end was perfect.  I really got lost in this so I am going back to read again.

Wow!  Such a beautiful story!  I can't believe how you were able to get so much emotion onto one screen of words!  Amazing work.  --Dave

To Dave and One Who Understands......
I was so pleased to read your remaks. I am almost ashamed of how quickly I wrote this poem!! but, as it has proved my most popular so far, perhaps that was a good thing.
