you've placated me with wise words
of love, but not in-love
of forever, but just friends
you've held my hand thorough eons of time
and thirteen was the lucky number
13
ten plus three
oh you know the special key...
you gave me babies, and heart scars
you gave me tears and smiles
camoflauge and muddy feet
and on this eve of our demise
all I can remember is the happy times
and question this fairy tale gone wrong
I question my choices in life
in love
and I fear the future alone
with you
but not with you
and then knowing all the good
waiting there around the corner
I still hesitate and drag my feet
unwilling for the piece of my heart
that holds you dear
to be ripped from me
unwilling to feel the ache from an empty bed
so afraid to sleep alone tonight
as my salt worn eyes
barely focus on blazing screen
I pen this eulogy to our marriage
this goodbye marking the end
to what was us, and what we became
over time
with life's interruptions thrown into the deal
and as I exit this program to send these words
hurtling through space
in a blink of light
I wonder at God
and hope He'll be there to watch me
as I sleep tonight
in a bed with 100% cotton
very very cold

What a STUNNING piece of writing...

A poetic marvel, a gem...

I can feel the sorrow in the poem as clearly as I can see the words I type, but thats just not it.. there's much more that I can't express... very clearly in words...

regards,
sudhir

Heather - You've penned this very well - the flow and thoughts merging so very well.  I can't say I like the subject or it's possible applicability, but I do like the poem.  Hugs.

Heather - What a powerful piece of work. The feelings come through so clearly, and they hurt!

Ah, girlie...sigh.  Aches, this aches.  Big hugs to you.

This here struck me full force:

and I fear the future alone
with you
but not with you

Of being with someone, but not with them, and the solitude of that...is just gripping.

More hugs
Nicole
