It could be you in that chair,
It could be you that gets pushed aside,
It could be you that gets the stares,
It could be you that wonders why.

It could be you that can not walk,
It could be you that has a dream,
It could be you that is the suject of
others talk,
It could be you that wonders why other
can be so mean.

People don't seem to understand,
We are people that always dream,
That we could be like everyone else,
We did not ask to be born this way.

All of us have the dream,
That we could walk with ease,
But until our dreams come true,
We must live our lives this way.

So be kind to us in our wheelchairs,
We are people too,
Please don't talk about us and stare,
Remember this! It could be you in that chair.

Cathy,
I only wish I could take away the pain that
those ignorant reactions bring...the pain of
words or no words at all...we should NEVER
judge a person by what their exterior
shows...only by what's in the heart, those
with "healthy" bodies should feel lucky to
have half the heart and strength that you
do!! By the way, I've un-adopted your
brother...lol but you...I'm keepin
Welcome home!!

Butterflies-I feel the same way you do
people don't seem to care about others
only about themselves.

CathyB~
Sometimes there are those who do not understand
how to approach someone in a wheelchair.
The approach should be no different than if they were standing.

In most instances, I don't feel that people
mean to stare so much as they do to
look the same as if they were looking at someone
who was not in a wheelchair.

I personally have no qualms about approaching someone in a wheelchair and extending my hand for a friendly hello.
I see the wheels ... but I also see the person.

I'm sorry you experienced such pain.

Cathy....Sadly this happens everywhere, an attitude born out of fear and ignorance. Attitudes will, and are changing, all to slowly but it is happening. You have expressed your pain and your strength well here.
