Dunkin’ Donuts… 8:05 AM

At a table for two,
with a broken swivel chair, sits
a little man frog-eyed and hunched
over a plain cake and  black coffee,
counting  currency,
stacking and re-stacking progressively,
never totaling an amount
similar to the previous adding of leftover bills
from a garage cleaning
that netted a box springs and stained Serta,
plus a broken washer bungee’d to the tailgate
disconnecting tub from gearbox
spilling buttons and a few pennies left behind
vibrating on the bedliner
reminiscent of the last agitation.

He tries conversation, between totals,
on a topic that is so far distant
from our ears to be recognized
as worthy of engaging.

In silence, he studies his watch,
waiting for 8:06 to arrive.

Robert

Robert, this is really interesting. I wonder what happened at 8.06!

Your poetry is more than a movie... more than a photograph... more than a picture of when... almost more than real

much admiration for this....

Excellent, Robert! Great ending 'waiting for 8:06 to arrive'! Sometimes the clock does seem to drag like that, each second seeming an eternity....had a moment or two like that in work today.

To all; thank you.

This is as real as life gets. I watched this little guy for 20 minutes this morning at Dunkin' Donuts.

It was very hard to condense this to one minute.

By the way....I had coffee, a honeybran raisin muffin and a coconut doughnut. I didn't stick around to see what happened at 8:06
