One day you watched a child laugh
And a tear rolled down your cheek
That day a sunset found you
Your heart skipped though so weak

When all you’ve seen and done
Falls a smile upon your face
Don’t ever think you’re finished
You’ve laid touch upon this place

Don’t feel foolish or a bother
There’s honor in your years
Don’t feel you failed me father
There’s cherish in your tears

You never said you loved me
We got close and then you died
That time you cried for laughter
I knew the words were deep inside

There're hard men who live hard lives
Never to let such feelings show
An honest man bears, "I love you"
There are children who need to know

What made you cry that evening?
Was it that boy’s joyful laughter?
I'm grown up now but you can tell me
Or I can wait for the ever after

There’s peace in this remembrance
How easy to fill in the blanks
Love, I recall so easily
And daddy I whisper thanks.

See I told you this brought tears!
That last stanza didn't ruin it all buddy, it just added a lot more touch to it!
You've not lost it all.

I told ya once and I'll say it again, this was a deep and very moving poem! Reaches right in there and touches the heart Walt!

You've written an exquisite poem here!
You keep this one safe for the next book submission!!!

Walt...man, you just simply reached down inside me and pulled some strings.  My dad is one of those hard men who lived hard times, and though he very rarely uttered those words, his actions shouted them. Thank you, my brother Texan, for the rememberances.

Walt~
Great reflections shared here.

It's wonderful when the song can inspire
you to reach in and hum the memories.

'One day you watched a child laugh
And a tear rolled down your cheek'

Tenderly done.

Walt,
You are, I believe, a treasure to all who know you. I sure love the way you express your tender self.

This is the third time I have come here to reply to this Walt. Probably any thought I have on the poem are skewed. The first time my Dad told me he loved me was mere seconds before he passed away. I am so glad he was able to. Thanks for a great poem.
