This poem is dedicated to all the
wonderful tourists that come to our
state every summer. They bring with
          them warm smiles, and enthusiasm.
They remind those of us who live
here to never take it for granted!!
                  So here it is:

              "A Big Alaskan Welcome!"

It's been such a long, lonely winter..
with never a new face in sight..
Not much goin' down in our quaint little town..
Now and then an occasional fight!..
You don't know how much we all missed you..
And not just your money, it's true..
In Winter we're stuck with each other..
Come Summer, we're ready for you!!
We're glad that you came to Alaska..
We'll open our doors with a smile...
You've nothing to fear in the
               Last Great Frontier..
Where we live in our own hearty style..
We'll take you out hunting and fishing..
         We'll toast with Alaskan-made beer..
When you get back home you'll be wishing..
That next year you'll end up
                    back here!!

Today is a gift....
That is why they call it
'the Present'!

Sunny

What a beautiful "Welcome".  Haven't been up there, but I would really like to come.  The Southern folk say, "Come on Down", and you folk in Alaska should say, "Come on Up".
Regardless - you have a great way of saying it in your own words.

Hi Sunny,

I wish I was there right now.  I'd truly love to someday visit your gorgeous state.  Hey, I most likely will.  What a nice poem to make people like me, tourists, come back again and again.  Thanks for the invite.

Your friend,
Michael

Hi Jamie...
Summers here are truly beautiful. Alaska has a variety of climates, so you can pick what you want.....wet or dry!!!
Thank you for coming to read!!

Sunshine...
Sorry.....real Alaskans hated that show!!  It made us look like idiots!!!
(even though a lot of it was too true-to-life!!!)

Hi Michael....
Well, thank you for such nice words, and I'm glad that you liked this one!! You  are welcome up here any time, my friend.....you, as an artist, would enjoy the scenery......it is truly breathtaking!!

Hi James....
Yes, it is inviting. In the little town I'm in, we get maybe 15,000 people visiting a day, when the big cruise ships pull in. The town then looks like a gathering of nations......people from everywhere on earth stop here!!  There's only 1200 residents in my town, so the tourists are what keeps us going....literally!

for some reason i think the title should read, 'the big-hearted Alaskan welcome'...your invitation seems very welcoming to one who is so used the big city life

Hi JnR4eva....
It might take a little getting used to after living in a city!!  But once you got here, everyone would make you feel right at home!!  Alaska is like stepping back in time, to when doors were unlocked, and neighbors smiled and said hello. How long has it been since you left your front door unlocked at night?
Thank you......I enjoy seeing you here!
