Our Lives Can Shine

by

Michael Auguste

So many faces share my life
And look up to this man you see
But I must tell them, they're all wrong
I'm not that man, I'm only me

Of pedistals, I have no use
I'm just the same as everyone
I cut myself and it will bleed
I've lost some battles, some I've won

It's true that in me thrives real hope
And strength to fight when some would quit
But in you lies exactly that
If you'll light the heart that once was lit

In honesty, we know ourselves
Much better than does anyone
In me lives fear I daily fight
In stars of night, in days of sun

It's truth I give here, know yourself
Don't let friends make you what you're not
Be who you are and trust in you
False compliments are best forgot

Four months ago my life did dim
Great sadness threatened who is me
I spent some time confused and lost
Then lit my life for all to see

I chose to live in Heaven's fire
And open arms that I might hold
Give comfort to those without hope
Refuse, my years be dust and mold

Our lives can shine, but that's our choice
And mine is to turn night to day
Push back the darkness and move on
To offer hope while on my way

serenity,

Your words are so kind.  Hey, we all have our moodiness.  I'm certainly no exception.  Thank you for dropping in and reading this.  It's always good to hear from you.

Michael,

I am still amazed at your talent to get all your feelings down on "paper" so eloquently. Your writing just gets better and better over the years...This poem sounds just like you!

Michael~

'Then lit my life for all to see

I was reminded of a childhood Sunday School sing-a-long song ...
'This little light of mine ...
I'm gonna let it shine.'

And you do so - tenderly and passionately.
You are a pleasure to read.

Michael, this doesn't surprise me in the least...it is simply the way you are. But the music of the poetry delights me, and I thank you for the sweetened  song, my friend.

American Princess,

Thanks for the kind words...it would be nice to see you post another poem...preferably on another subject, if you know what I mean.  I hope your day is a good one.

Michael
