Candle, Candle

Candle, candle, burning slow
In haunting memories you glow
In yellow flame a name I know
Reveals itself as waxes flow

Within  the candle’s mellow light
A sorrow flickers in the night
Within the wick a cursed plight
From long ago remains in sight

Every candle weeps a tear
From off the crystal chandelier
Remembrance of a love so dear
Is crystallized from year to year

It was in candle’s glowing grace
That passion lit a lover’s face
And made a halo to embrace
The two in dimly lighted space

But now from crystal teardrops flask
The prism silences still cast
From out of sorrow’s fated past
The truth of love that  faded fast

In every wick a flickering lie
Deceit was wicked truth denied
And every flame that slowly dies
Still makes me stare with misty eyes

In measured time the candles fade
But while they burn, still dreams are made
A single flame more mystifies
Than all the stars in heavens skies

I don't know what inspired you to write this, but I would like to grab that piece of inspiration myself... well done yet again, Liz... I have already run out of superlatives to use... to tell you how good your poems are...

Elizabeth this is magic. I viewed it through misty eyes.

This is a wonderful magical work Elizabeth. I love the references to love and the candle burning. It's so true too... that single fame seems to put you in a trance where you can envision so many things......excellent !!

Liz.. hmmm... More and more of the mystery of you comes to the fore - and beautifully at that.  I'm still waiting for a poorly written poem from you *tapping my foot impatiently*.  I like the theme of the candle you held throughout so well.

Liz--You have touched my heart with this poem, for some reason the flicker of the candle in your words makes me want to weep...I'll have to figure out why...beautiful writing, my friend!

Liz,
This is so beautiful.  I had to go
back and reread this several times.
This stanza is so elegant.
       ----------------
Every candle weeps a tear
From off the crystal chandelier
Remembrance of a love so dear
Is crystallized from year to year

        ---------------

I believe Sudhir said it all.
