Artist at the Park

by

Michael Auguste

While at the park he sits and paints
With easel of mahogany
A canvas stretched and framed with wood
He paints the lake, but thinks the sea

Children swinging and some on slides
Adults walk for the exercise
There's music carried on the air
The quacking ducks are sea gulls cries

A small young child approaches him
And asks if he, an artist be
With smile and patience taught with years
He tells this child, that yes, it's he

There is a mother close behind
So quiet, he didn't see her there
Observes the artist as he paints
He concentrates, is unaware

And then a duck he'd wished a gull
Waddles up and brings child's delight
The mother sighs, child laughter rings
He mixes brilliant blue with white

The sun is dipping in the west
Too dim, a proper painting make
He folds the easel and then stands
As crimson steals across the lake

And as he turns around to leave
Not two, but six are standing there
With smiles and praise, their questions ask
He once again sits in the chair

He answers everyone in turn
Then grins, the duck is also there
This day has given him such peace
It's nice to see so many care

Magnificent!! This is just so "you" you know. Loved this, dear. And just think, a couple more months, and it will be the ocean.

So nice, Michael.

As I sit in my garden here in England and wish it were the Lake District, as I look at the sun in my English sky and wish it were in Florida......I will envy you your move to the ocean!

Hi Debbie,

Of course you already know that after we move you have a standing invitation and are welcome to visit as often as you can...I'd enjoy that very much. Thanks for the reply and keep your umbrella handy.

JnR4eva,

Such nice words to hear and I appreciate them so much.  If I understood your question correctly, I think you were asking if I am the artist in the park...yes, I am...I often my easel out in public while painting landscapes.  People often become curious and wander by.  Thanks for taking the time to read this.  Take care.

Michael

Beautiful Michael, I can just see you sitting there painting. I guess I don't need to tell you how much I like your work.

Captivating and just filled with peace.
An exquisite, gentle poem.
Beautifully penned!
