*tried my hand at it..am not a gambler..always  lose..and so it shows...

Flushed Away

He spun that wheel and I was it
The one he chose 'mong all others
A playboy bunny, could ante up
But he chose my shyness, he would druther.

Naiveté, virginity,
The sweetest prize, this ace of spades
Then showed me off, his queen of hearts
Within a year, his wife, had made.

This wheel of chance, he'd spin around
And every time, a card would land
He'd kiss me once and then again
Inside my heart, he'd dance this hand.

Sometimes he'd have a royal flush
With me along, the crimson rose
Contented, we, two hearts as one
Spreading joy and love that glows.

Then one day a house of full
Became his only place to rest
Passed me by, would rather fold
Then try his hand, I must confess.

I bet on nothing, I never lose
I hate the game of life when played
As chances, hoping for a win
Except this time, my hand is laid

Open now for all to see
Betting, somehow's lost it's edge.
This Queen of hearts had tried to save
But winds have changed and blown his pledge.

*sorry the more I tried the wearier I got
M

You did a fantastic job.  Hope to someday be able to write as beautiful as you. Loved it.

A foolish man who doesn't play to win the hand that matters most.  My compliments on a fine effort.  Peace!

And you say you can't gamble. You bluffed and lost on this one, but you could have bluffed and won!
Lovely sensitive caring poem.
Be well

susan
well I tried anyway.....for those who don't understand I was asked for a divorce on the 18th after 30 years of marriage this month and standing by him these last several years of promises to stop his drinking....so the  years before were wonderful and the last weekend a nightmare...completely unexpected...
I have yet to feel..what I will eventually...so to write this was a bit confusing..a gamble, I actually lost and several years in the process of hoping and caring...and aging that I shall never get back

Kethry...no he was the one bluffing and eventually was called on it by my actions, I guess...I still say his loss
and the grass is not always greener on the other side....it still needs mowing and tender loving care...

Well done with the challenge, but sorry to learn that you lost the bet...

but then look at the brighter side... you still have yourself to deal another round and what goes round comes around... things will become happier and better, I am sure...

Cheers,
regards,
