(This is a rewrite of an old post)

Lady Luck and the Gambler

She could make a gambler win,
she could…
and she could dance,
beauty was in the
rhythm of her legs,
her legs mooooved, yes.

She was her disguise
of sweet young thing,
a pony-tail, the perfect ploy
and she felt the sweet heat
that pulled her
to a gambler’s heart.

She was Lady Luck.

The casino didn’t sleep,
it had no mask,
it was a living breathing thing.
Its organs the slot machines
and gaming tables,
its blood, the people
who played.
Accouterments of hope
where she stood and watched
so many mixed and muted hearts.

Some old and dressed
in yellow polyester,
some young, clean shaven
and fragrant with optimism.
They wore tight pants
with stiletto heels
or were pock-marked by youth
and disillusioned by love.

One night she was drawn
to an elderly lady
in navy blue
with a lace collar
and the smell of Gardenias.
A bun dotted the top of her head
and her past was written
in the lines etched across her face.
Roads of passion,
sadness and disappointment,
and many pathways to wisdom.
She clutched a bucket of quarters.

Oh, dear,
I seem to have lost my machine
she said.
Lady luck had a machine for her
she did,
where she deposited,
one, two then three quarters
and pushed the button.

She could make a gambler win,
she could…
and she could dance,
beauty was in the
rhythm of her legs,
her legs mooooved, yes.

She was Lady Luck.

Then she was pulled across the room,
he was tall and blond,
more than "sweet heat",
she inched up to his beige Dockers pants
and button-down shirt
to his slender, tucked in firmness,
the hairs on her arms yearning in his direction,
like some kind of electrical charge,
and when he turned his blue gaze at her
she tossed her heart at him
and whispered into his ear,
ante up baby
you are about to win.

She could make a gambler win,
she could…
and she could dance,
beauty was in the
rhythm of her legs,
her legs mooooved, yes.

She was Lady Luck.

Martie this is great. I could see it all.

She tossed her heart at him
and whispered into his ear
ante up baby
you are about to win

Now that's some heavy duty lines. Loved the whole thing girl.

I have only went to Las Vegas one time...
I thought I saw lady luck...  but then Connie saw me staring... and told me that wasnt lady luck, but was a lady of the evening and that if I was going to be lucky that evening, I better keep my eyes to myself...  but I digress... enjoyed you poem muchly...

Martie----for someone that does not do challenges you seem to do them quite well.
the above lines a gonna go down as poetic perfection.  Winderful write.
