You wanted a poem, so I’ll write it-
I write with a tear in my eye...
The last thing I wanted to tell you-
Is what I must say, that’s “goodbye”.

Too long I have made rash decisions,
And maybe I’m making one more.
And thus do I choose, and it gives me the blues-
Not knowing just what lies in store.

But pride is the one thing I cherish...
To take it’s the fate worse than death.
I’ll live or I’ll die, with my head held with pride,
Protect it with my dying breath.

Your words gave me prospects of joy-
And oft brought a smile to my face...
And took away part of my longing,
And placed a brief hope in it’s place.

But, wait, lest I grow sentimental....
You wanted a poem, here it is!
My destiny waits, or maybe my fate-
I wanted to leave you with this.

Sometimes the easiest way to say goodbye is in a poem, for as a poet, your words come truly from your heart......
            Bittersweet, but excellent!

Today is a gift....
That is why they call it
'the Present'!

Yep! And there it is... straight from the hip.  As alwasy, quality writing no matter the subject. My hat's off to you and yours.  Peace!

Gunslinger
This is a very pensive goodbye.  You left her with a good one.  It may change her mind.

Man that's just a great poem, no question it would be good way to handle such a touchy situation. I really enjoyed reading this.

I read this with both a smile for your expertise and a cringe for the content of the piece. (no rhyme intended) Saying goodbye is difficult, no matter how it's said, dear Troubadour, and you have done so with dignity.

By the way, it had better not be a goodbye to us!

Another wonderful piece.  I don't guess you remember but I think we used to post at the same board a year ago.  I recognized your handle first... and now I recognized the style.  Great work as always!
