Footsteps echo, hollow on an empty stage,
No light left to burn his eye or sweat his brow;
A wry smile reveals his thought
And adds momentum to his step, somehow.

First one then two, then spin and stop.
A wink, a song to an audience long gone away.
He looks at row on empty row
And thinks of how he came to be, that day.

Of work and slog and practice more
And yet more, as practice makes perfect they say;
Of wives and loves come and gone,
Of making the show go on, come what may.

Time flies when you are having fun.
A buzzer sounds a sharp reminder!
Off, stage left, he hurries on
To don the face of the entertainer.

Then back upon his stage, now lit,
Once empty seats are filled with such excitement.
Nerves and insecurities now gone,
He enacts his way of life - that's entertainment!!

Very nice!! The first couple of lines really caught my attention... "Footsteps echo, hollow on an empty stage, No light left to burn his eye or sweat his brow;".  Puts you right there!!
