I wrote this earlier in the year and just came accross it....I revised it a bit for the post....alot of it could apply to a situation I am in now,,,weird how that works out....

Did I make you nervous?
Did I say something wrong?
Did I walk just a little too close to you?
Did I see you smile when I walked by?
Tell me can you look me in the eye?
you can let out your sigh...
I'll keep our secret
no I won't regret it....

I listen to all of the lines you use
telling lies whenever you choose
baby I've played the game
eventually you'll lose
they'll come a time
to pay your dues
you act so smooth
I have no pity for you

just waiting for the smoke
from the flame that you provoke
trying to hide the siganls
you send to my soul
hiding behind smokescreens
pretending not to let it show
do you think they'll ever know?

and nothing good can come of this
no the stars won't hear our wish
the angels they would not approve
tell me will you make your move?
baby we've got so much to lose
and I could never ask you to choose

I've played this game before
every minute wanting more
holding on to a simple wish
to have~~to hold~~to kiss
nothing good can come of this
what happens when it all shines through?
tell me baby what will you do?
this glass a window to our hearts
spread out for all to view
saying things our hearts can't hide
pages in a book opened wide

and I'm just waiting for the smoke
from this flame that you provoke
trying to hide the signals
you send to my soul
hiding behind smokescreens
pretending not to let it show
do you think they'll ever know?

words you softly speak to me
I wonder if you really mean
I try my hardest not believe
because this game hurts
when you play it too long
I don't understand how it could
feel so good and be so wrong

and it will all blow up in our face
we'll bury our secrets without a trace
trying to pretend it didn't exist
believing that there wasn't
passion in our kiss
hoping that the others touch
will never be missed
going on with what's left of your life
I'm sure you really do love your wife
and I promise not to tell her
all the things you said to me
because even if just for a moment
you helped me to be free

and I'm just waiting for the smoke
from this flame that you provoke
trying to hide the signals
you send to my soul
hiding behind smokescreens
pretending not to let it show
Do you think they'll ever know?

Hmmm...hiding behind a smoke screen...how very true. I think this happens in a lot of ways...people are a lot more cautious it seems these days and words and emotions don't meant the same as they once did. Some people go through a lot to cover them...things always look distorted when you gaze at them through a screen of smoke.
Excellent poem, sarahC...you really expressed a lot here.

Don't care what people say
Just follow your own way
Don't give up and use the chance
To return to innocence.

loved this poem, full of anxiety and contradiction, bit like life really.

Well Done

but it is the loss that shapes the image,
gathers the flowers weaves the garland."-
