   Back To Yellow

In all my years I haven't forgotten what it means to really live
Years only gave me a truer sense in what a person can surely give
Tonight I caught a glance back to when life was at it's best
And, yellow hits my aching heart that will not let me rest...

God, how the memory of it all finds one so young and small
But, I've grown partial to the time when I know I had it all
So, take me back to yesterday for a closer look again
I want to hold the dearest memories where the yellow never ends...

There you will find the house that stood in a graveled space alone
And, within those yellow walls was the place that we called home
Now, there's that outlined distance that was stretched in cast iron black
And, behind that fence I can surely recall the sweetest years that's passed...

There's the family with so little but hearts got bigger everyday
And, we just placed our faith in what we had and let the rest just slip away
How I can see the certain times true family then would ring
And, no matter the storm, we didn't care, we lived for what our love could bring...

When the bitter walls with ice inside found a winter season storm
You'd find our bodies resting on that kitchen stove door trying to keep warm
But, how the winter seemed to bring us even closer in the years
Still you'd never find a bitter heart and rarely any tears...

Take me back to yellow just to feel what love was like
I don't care if I have to sleep again through another stormy night
I'll take the cold and I'll take the snow to live it like before
I miss my family, my whole meaning, behind that old and wooden door...

I can't forget how my Dad would clear his throat in what he wished he could have done
And, how I'm sure he asked for winter to hurry so we'd have that summer sun
But, I remember knowing he couldn't stand seeing the hungry family he struggled for
But, take me back to yellow and, Dad, I'd live hungry a million times more...

Then, there was my Mama in a hard day's work with her children everyday
And, it was common to find my Mama off alone while she would pray
And, throughout the day you could hear the church radio in the air
She found comfort in what little we had knowing God was always there...

Take me back to yellow just to hear it play throughout my mind
So, I can say yellow was always the way to my families most grateful times
There was little, but a lot, when moments made me who I am
Take me back to yellow to live with my Mama and Daddy again...

Have you ever known the color grey when the nighttime finds you weak
I have, I've walked that road each time; that's where my angel sleeps

Beautiful verse...especially liked the following lines.

When the bitter walls with ice inside found a winter season storm
You'd find our bodies resting on that kitchen stove door trying to keep warm
But, how the winter seemed to bring us even closer in the years
Still you'd never find a bitter heart and rarely any tears...

You are growing and shining more with every new day.
