Sometimes it's a game
of chance

sometimes it's skill
She said
'Give me five cards,
Stud.'

Blowing smoke rings
across the room
they settled around him
taught as leather straps
he sat firmly
Intently gawking
at the queen of diamonds
naked without her
Spades

he was straight
Flushed
and wondering himself
what the ante was
wondering if the deck
was Stacked
as she

and the house
Just who was the house?

Sometimes it's a game

He bet a kiss
and she raised him

You have the BEST way of describing things - every poem you write is professional!  I enjoy the similes you invent - they are gems, every one of them.

POW!

Plays On Words...

GREAT theme & fine writing, here!... why didn't i think of something like this? LOL...sometimes it's a game for sure...yep... and  you've inspired me... i might deal a few lines with a similar theme... that is, if it's in the cards tonight (if you don't mind, that is)...

as always, enjoy reading you   < !signature-->

Loved it.

Goddess -- you've, um, raised -- more men than you know.... lol

Deer -- yep -- she beat me hands down... lol

Kethry -- yep -- losing is always winning in that game...the only real losers are the ones that don't play

Marge -- I'll never tell...    thanks...

REB, REB, REB:  You
The play you have with words is astonishing.  Then you and Mr. Deer take it a step further.  It's great.  I've had a few laughs at some of the comments made in this one.  I believe everyone thoroughly enjoy your play of words.
By the way, your poem was excellent. I'm sure the maiden you were playing had all intensions of raising you right from the start. "Queen of diamonds naked without her spades"  I would gawk too.
