Man's disconnected from the moment of birth...
He's yanked from his cozy dark comfortable womb,
into bright lights, strange voices, and a
               cold, lonely room...
And the lesson he learns will be one of the first..
It's the louder you cry,
                       that determines your worth...

Man's disconnected, but he still has to try...
To fit in and become just the same as his friends..
On his Image his whole reputation depends...
Individual traits are the things he must hide...
To become upward mobile and to reach for the sky...

Man's disconnected, but he has to belong...
He tries all his life to get into the race...
Keeping up with the pack at a difficult pace..
Never time out for pleasure or enjoying life's
                    song...
You have got to fit in...
you have got to race on...

I'm disconnected...maybe you should be, too?
I have always been different...
                             Caring NOT to fit in...
Never trying for prizes I was told I should win...
Always choosing a path far less traveled, it's true

           Does this sound inviting??
                 Let me
                        Disconnect
                                   You!!!!

Today is a gift....
That is why they call it
'the Present'!

Well Sunny after you beat up on us guys then you joined us....well I've got to tell you.. I'm disconnected too and I find it most enjoyable. I realize the point you've made and I have to go with it. All too often man spends his whole life becoming a success and then looks into the sunset and realizes that it's almost over.....take care..ethome..

Hi Sunny,

I started off in life just like that, but early on I knew that I wasn't being true to who I was, so I also disconnected.  I prefer it this way.  I don't have to impress anyone, try to fit in, just be who I am and hope there are people who will find value in that. My life has been much happier since I chose to be just me.

I hope your day is a happy one!

Michael

WOW this is a cool piece you have composed
What I love about it so much is that as a teenager I can relate in MANY ways, but then again adults have those same pressures but in different respects...this is a cool poem and I loved the flow of the words...nicely done, but then again I'm not surprised

my love is my inspiration
perception of this poem
is your interpretation"

Well Sunny...I have always been "disconnected", never did like to be "connected" But that's just me, and I did like your poem, as always.

Hi ethome....
Yes....being 'disconnected' is not a bad thing, in some cases!! Thank you for reading my work!!

Hi Michael....
I love people who are just themselves, not trying to impress anybody. I play music onstage....people are totally into image, and it's all fake. I'm glad there are people like you....thank you for coming by, my friend!!

Hi JnR4eva....
I still feel the same way about things as I did when I was a teenager, but maybe just a bit stronger now!!  Keep your individuality, and just be YOU!!!!! I love you young people....you give me a fresh outlook on life!!  And thank you for your nice reply, too!

Sunny, this is me, once again. I too, have always felt just a little different, and as I get older, I like it that way. Superb poem, as always.

Hi Sandra....
Good to see you here!! Yes, I am beginning to realize by the replies to this, that poets are very much individuals, as with most artists. Poetry is an expression, coming from the self, not the crowd!!  Nice that we can all be at home here with people of like feelings!!

I think sometimes a way to stay "connected" is to "disconnect for a while", I liked your words and meaning.

Hi Gemini....
You are soooooo right!! Anyway, the only thing we need to stay connected to is ourselves and those we love.  Thank you for reading, my friend......

  Disconnected huh...
I liked this one very much because I try to live this everyday. I hate trying to live my life through others eyes. I did it for awile, but I find I'm more pleased with myself if I just live for me and my family.
But every now and again, I play ET, and phone home (LOL)
By the way, I love your pen name (Sunny1).  So original and the name in itself just seems that of a free spirit that's going to bring joy and happiness.
   Great poem.

Hi ggrn3...
This is great...I mean, I so enjoy meeting folks like you who are happy in just being themselves.  That has to be the greatest gift a human can have! I thank you for coming to read this, and for such a nice reply. I guess my handle is right for me, as it's a gypsy nickname I was give years ago. It's helped me keep my spirit free, and show others how if they want to!
Peace and joy to you today!
