Eating dust and punching cattle-
Used to be my chosen trade...
And I spent my youthful life
Out in the huisatche and the sage.

But I met a painted lady-
In the town of Santa Fe...
Just one smile from Mirabella,
Sent this poor, young fool astray.

Like a spider in her parlor-
She would draw them to her web.
I would lift their gold, and jewelry,
Leave them beaten and half dead.

Such a life has but one ending-
For one night I killed a man...
Someone saw me leave the alley-
With a gun drawn in my hand.

She avowed she hardly knew me...
I could see the lines were drawn.
Curse her name! she will not miss me,
When they hang me at the dawn.

So young cowboy heed my warning-
She’s a liar and a cheat,
If you fall for Mirabella,
The same fate you’ll likely meet.

Won’t you have a moments pity,
Ere you have to move along?
Your whole life lies there before you...
But they’ll hang me with the dawn.

Well, Slinger ...
a fine mess you've gotten into this time !

We're gonna miss you in the morning
but will remember your woeful song ...
Son, that Mirabella ...
she sure done ya' wrong !

Enjoyed the read.

Oh, I truly truly enjoyed this one.  Loved the western motif and the exciting story.  Fantastic.  I tried to visit your website but it came up "page not found"  - I'll try again later. *S*

Thanks all. Lady 6string, I don't know why the link to my homepage doesn't work. I tried it too, and it wouldn't work for me either. However if you type in the address it might. Thanks  http://www.geocities.com/montcogunslinger/Homepage.html
