A great and ever present reason
in the still gives me strength
to be trusting.
In the color of love
I see the bright and rounding moon
and in goodness I see beginnings.
I have capsized again and again
in oceans that took my breathe.
I found myself
in white capped splendor
negotiating with my insanity
a personal flotation device
meant for drowning souls.

It took me
past the catch in my throat
pulsing with a heart song,
down into a safely place
that enfolded my lonely wretchedness
twisted it like French ribbon
rippled it to clarity
and brought it back
like fabric tossed with bounce
sweet smelling and new.

Listen, in the story is survival
faltered and failed,
bleeding from times listing wooden boat,
but loud and lovely with survival.

and when I looked
for what I'd lost
I found poetry
still fresh and lithe
and new in its amazement.

this entire piece is exceptionally written.. you are such a fine writer... one of the very best on this site and i wanted to tell you here how much i admire your work, if i haven't already done so...

these lines are particularly engaging to me:

"I have capsized again and again
in oceans that took my breathe.
I found myself
in white capped splendor
negotiating with my insanity
a personal flotation device
meant for drowning souls."

i haven't started a "personal library" yet with the new software, but i think i will with this work... it's very well written, my poet friend... thank you for sharing your talent and pieces of yourself

~ all you can really ever expect out of life is a good apology and some decent poetry ~

I have found someone in you - whose quality of imagination I want to emulate. Everything I read of yours is so fresh and creative it takes my breath away.
This poem stands unique among them all - for it captures with such poetic briliance feelings I've been unavle to express.
Thank you three times

Stupendous is the most apt word for such a great poem...
particularly loved these lines here...

A great and ever present reason
in the still gives me strength
..
I have capsized again and again
in oceans that took my breathe.
..
in white capped splendor
negotiating with my insanity
a personal flotation device
meant for drowning souls.
..
that enfolded my lonely wretchedness
twisted it like French ribbon
..
for what I'd lost
I found poetry
still fresh and lithe
and new in its amazement.
....

and in amazement, I am...
astounded by the imagery, by the use of words... by your poetry...

regards to you Martie,
sudhir

Martie, with each read you continue to leave me speechless in total awe and I must admit slight jealously at your radiating talent. Continue to shine and dazzle us.
