The Wedding

Something old, something new
Something deep inside of you
Tells your heart that this will be
A day to let your heart be free

One last chance to show your love
One last dance your dreaming of
In your father’s arms you’ll be
His shining light of ecstasy

One last day to make him proud
To say you love him right out loud
A chance that you’ve been waiting for
To give him joy forever more

Something special, something blue
The ring of gold he gave to you
It glows against your wedding dress
And fills his heart with happiness

The blue of stone is like a beam
That fills your eyes with joyful gleam
Your tears are mixed from deep inside
Of joy and sorrow, side by side

Something borrowed, something grand
He places in your lovely hand
It is his hand held tight to yours
As love from out the spirit pours

Hold my hand and you will know
My happiness before I go
Something deep inside of me
Tells me love will always be

Something old, but something true
The best of life is here with you
It’s something new that you have found
As to another you are bound

A look of wonder on his face
To see his daughter dressed in lace
It is a love so pure and true
It’s something old and something new

How lovely, Elizabeth, this could be read at a wedding, perfect and sweet.

Christopher, marriage is supposed to be happy. SUPPOSED to be..Not is, far too often.

But hope is eternal and this is just beautiful

Liz - This poem struck some very deep chords - It made me wonder if, when my daughters marry, will they even want me to give them away - long story, another life - this poem really made me think, and smile with hope.

On a more critical level - I really love the way you held the "something old, something new..." them together so well.  What an inspiration it must have been when the idea came to you!

Another beautiful poem.  A wedding is something that is remembered until you die, whether it is your own or a member of your family.  Congrats on your upcoming wedding, I hope you can frame this and give it to your daughter as a gift.  If it were me, I would treasure it.

My what a beautifully stated poem you have penned...and they're so moving these lines...truly a wonderful piece, I now have the image of a father and daughter dancing gracefully on the floor ...

"my love is my motivation
my love is my inspiration
perception of this poem
is your interpretation"

Elizabeth,

This was lovely my friend.  You have captured a memory to be cherished forever.  I hope this finds you and Tony doing as well as you can these days.  My thoughts and prayers are with you.
