"Something for everyone" they shouted
as I walked by each table,
carefully examining the trinkets.
There, in a glass case,
hidden by tarnished rhinestone earrings
and rusted political pins,
"it" caught my eye.
An old, odd shaped, silver piece; a shuttle,
still holding the thread it would spin into lace.
The ornate etchings, worn away by the thumb of it's user,
were now a smooth patina.
Holding it in my hand, this long forgotten treasure of bygone days,
seemed casting a spell, sending images of Gram working her magic.
Held between the thumb and forefinger of one gnarled old hand,
delicate, colorful thread wrapped around the other.
In and out, in and out, over and around,
endlessly, effortlessly, making what appeared to be knots.
But what in reality was a soft, homespun, tatted lace.
"Ya wanna buy that?" brought me back to the here and now
Yes, oh yes, my treasure held firmly in my hand,
yes, of course I wanted to buy it!
So perhaps someday my grandchild
will stand at a table of other peoples junk
And find...a precious memory.

Well girl you did it again. I was right there at that table with you. Looking at this exquisite piece as you held it in your admiring hand. What beautiful images Bonnie.
Love,
Juls

Oh so timely - having a neighborhood tag sale this weekend...I think I'll name my tables "My Trash - Your Treasures..."

You're creating smiles today...

Dear Bonnie, What a great idea for a poem. I love to go through other people's junk and find those treasures. You have quite a jewel packaged in this piece. Very well done. Marcy

One man's trash is surely another man's treasure!  You've captured this beautifully with the lovely memory of your grandmother Bonnie.  I could almost see her there myself ... sigh. Very nicely penned!

Best wishes,
/Kit
