Stuff & Things
©2000 Christopher Ward

Take the photographs.
  Take the paintings as well;
    The ones from off
the walls.
  Pack the books,
    the music,
   movies and memories.
Here are the keys to the car.
     Yes,
   the cards and letters too.
After all,
I wrote them all for you.
      The TV?
   Sure, it's yours.
  Here,
   I'll stack it next
to what used to be our bed.
    The lamps, the tables.
  Chairs, and yeah,
   Take the stereo as well.
Anything else?
    The sink?
  It's yours.
I'll just take back
  what I brought,
   my heart.

Excellent! If you come away with an unbruised heart, you're ahead of the game, but we usually don't. I like this one very much Chris.

~Ouch Christopher!!!  While reading this I could just picture the speaker saying this all with a low hanging head and shlepping (sp) feet along the floor....what a mood this poem brings on. Wow! Nice expression here. Take care CW. *Peace.

The hardest part of breaking up is getting back your stuff...

Seriously, though, this is a really harsh poem. I feel for you, my friend.

Sweet!  A perfect reason to go shopping!

Seriously though, how ironic is it that when a person is in a situation like this, when all they want is their heart back (thankyouverymuch)...the heart is always the last to be reclaimed, if at all in its entirety.

It's never easy, is it?

Ah, I've been there too my friend...it always hurts, doesn't it?  Exellent verse!

Oh, and could you please tell Abrahm to lay off the 'flour'?

Wow Christopher! You've portrayed the stark reality of this situation so incredibly well. The closing is perfect! Very nicely penned indeed!

Best wishes,

ROFLMAO!  You know, this is a funny reminder of a time in my life when my ex moved out - I think he had your girl beat though, because he even packed up our last 3 rolls of toilet paper!  I KNEW he was serious then!  ROFL  I was sure to stick around while he packed up from that point on!  I was afraid the lightbulbs and outlet covers would end up missing!!  Guys don't miss a thing!  LOL  This has a touch of sarcastic humor in it, but it's touching and real all the same.  Someone said "subtle anger" I think?  Great job Chris...

A resounding WOW from me here!

Nan - I think and am afraid you're right. It's sad... But I do believe that in order to understand true appreciation, we must at first have lost. (But she could have at least left me my Van Gogh prints...) Thank you lady.

Sharon - My friend, I've yet to know someone who came away wholly unbruised. As always, I appreciate your kind and caring comments!

Karilea - Hear that! Though, sigh, I never learn... so I'll probably do it again. And again. And again. Too stubborn for my own good!

Spitfire - Not too far off the mark there lady. T'was much like that on that day. (She didn't really take the sink.. but it felt like it!

Ali - May I infer from your caustic and supportive remarks that you've been there as well? LOL Thank you m'friend!

Lovebug - Just imagine him taking away your precious Volkswagen!!! LOL Thanks lady!

Sudhir - At a loss sir? Quite unlike you!   Just teasing you!

Nic - *shaking head* Terrible, terrible, terrible. Like you need more shoes!   Thanks lady, BOL backatcha!

Gemini - Thank you, though I must profess interest in the "sweet" portion. LOL Perhaps the "subtle but honest bitterness" is clouding my brain!

Abe - Krista told me to tell you to get away from the "flour..." Ermm... Methinks it may be something a wee bit stronger? Too much caffiene boy... LOL

Irie - As much as I could. I don't think you ever get all of it back. But that too is a good thing.

Krista - Aye, that it does, that it does. I told Abe, BTW, but I'm not sure it'll do too much good...

Kit - Thank you ma'am. I thin khaving actually gone through it (twice now... hmm... LOL) I know the feelings all too well!

Marge - Wouldn'a want to disappoint you lady! LOL. Thanks for the "Clean sweep!"

Gen - And again you pop up! LOL.. well it sounds like he was a bit worse! But I don't envy anyone this, no matter how much they lose!   (For after all, the loss of love is by far more important. The rest, it's just "stuff & things."

Thank you my friends, for the overwhelming responses and understanding!

Chris

It's great that you can have a sense of humor about it!  Having been around the bend a few times myself, I've learned not to give away all the stuff, cuz then you just have to get MORE stuff!  Yeah, the memories are associated with the OLD stuff, but it fades and soon it's just STUFF again!

Thanks for sharing, nice new pic, too!

S'en - My most profuse apologies lady for missing your response... I blame it on being so dazzled by your reply that I was momentarily blinded...?

Thank you lady, you know you're always appreciated!

Corinne - Always appreciate your replies!   And *grumble-grumble* welcome... LOL

LSS - Thank you for stopping by and slinking away!
