how small -- how great ...

to our thoughts
we implore
ourselves the
makers of
all we explore

how small
we are
in the vast
black mind
of space

we, the iota --
its greatness
tosses us about
its starbred
oceans

we, the minute --
its endlessness
squashes neat
upon our
unfathomable
consciousness

we, the mediocre --
its perfection
shines brilliant
even upon the
telescope
of time

now,
how great
is man(?)

Mark...how great is man I guess depends on the eyes that are looking at him...from heavens view we are mere specs...from my sons eyes I am his world...same sight different view...nice write

An astute poetic look, to be sure.

thanks all for reading ... Paula, i can certainly appreciate your take on this piece ... it is a bit of a one-way look, but i'm trying to convey the "perceived insignificance" of man ... i'm pondering a changed ending on this piece though ... i'll repost if i decide to follow through ... thanks again all ...

Man, in all his arrogance, is still just man,
imperfect, and less than he thinks he is. Well presented...enjoyed this read.

We truly are insignifigant when we look at the wide picture. What respect we must pay to the gifted hands that carved the womderful universe and it's billions of different sources of energy.....we are small but then we are wonderfully made and that's what makes us great....as long as we appreciate what we have.........great write, very moving!!
