In the space between moments

*dedicated to all those children killed before they even had a chance to live.

A firefly floats o'er the ocean
Delivering infant souls
To bask in mortal dreams...

A twisting, writhing body
Flying past the darkness
Through streams of ruby blood
Rushing to know the light
Of Luna's silver glow.

Eyes lit of ocean's spray
Engulfed in newborn wonder...
Laying softly 'pon moistened earth
Her body takes first breath.

But Mother's heart is ice--
Eyes brooding with primal fear
As she stands on shaken limbs
And gazes at her crying child.

Blackness hovers thickly
As mother moves to cradle daughter
Insanity encloses
While the sea breeze whispers darkly
Calling...inviting solace...

Tears slide through midnight's grasp
As child's voice falls silent
By churning, cobalt waters...
Mother now the murderer
Of one so innocent.

A firefly floats on the night
Carrying a child's tender soul
Past the unforgiving waves
And into clouds of starlight.

Wow...from depths of despair (and anger on my part!) to a sweet ending...I once heard that babies are bits of stardust blown from the hand of God...a wrenching but beautiful poem...

Krista-this is soooooo very sad and yes it is a true misjustice to each and everyone......you have brought to us a very sensitive matter and penned your thoughts to perfection....the images and the betrayal of young lives lost are so vivid and haunting.

Beautiful write on such an ugly event.

This is a painful one.. all those defenseless children wrested of their life in such violence before they can live... Sad and poignant.. with that bittersweet ending.. that last verse was perfectly beautiful. Great poem, sweetheart

Krista, this is such a sad piece. It's another sad fact of life that mothers of "unwanted" children all too often kill these precious gifts that they have been given. It's a comfort to know that God has a place in His heart and His home in Heaven for these little children. Thank you for sharing this with us.
