Hey James, I was going back to my recent poem posted, and I happened to read your post requesting for Black girl lost. Well, here it is and I'm very sorry that I didn't read or respond to your request sooner.

She's young and beautiful,
she's smart, energetic, and kind,
as she had her own piece of mind.
I met her in a restaurant and even then,
she seemed to have her priorities straight
because, she had the patience to elevate.
She was a freshman in college,
studying computer science,
as she seemed to behold lots of knowledge,
as she expressed it with great defiance.
She was confident and ambitious,
as her life seemed to be,
headed for the life of the richest.
Yeah, she had a bright future head of her
but, she let the no-no's of life, mislead her
as she started hanging out with the wrong people,
who were below her standards of moral equals.
She just let guys use her and leave,
as she had me wondering, how a smart girl like her, could be so naive?!!
She started drinking and doing drugs
and she started hanging out late,
eventually missing school the next day.
One day, I asked her,"why are you acting this way?"
She just shrugged her shoulders
and left with nothing to say.
I hated seing her this way
as she used to be my black queen,
and I used to be her king,
as I our love was everything.
She just locked out everyone she knew before,
which was too hard to me to ignore.
Even though she didn't want to be bothered,
I would still tell her that,"I love her."
Her school thang wasn't going to good,
as she was catching the devil,
like I knew she would.
Her grades were so low,
that soon, dropped out of school.
For a while, she played cool
and came back to school,
as she pulled her grades up
and passed for the year
but just barely though.
I congradulated her efforts and hard work
but she just gave me the finger and cursed.
She was doing all the things that held her back,
as I tried to tell her that "crack,
is something that she needed to lack"
but, she wouldn't listen me or anybody else
so, i guess she'll have to learn the hard way,
by her own damn self!
She tried to get a summer job
because, times were getting very hard
as she got interviewed by this guy named Mr.Lime,
who had his mind on sex, the whole damn time.
It was the typical day,
that a black girl goes through,
going home trying to figure out,
what she's gonna do.
She eventually got a job at strip club,
where her nice body, got much love
as she was a good free-lancer
as well as a good top-less dancer.
Everytime I see her dancing topless in her draws,
I tell myself,"damn look,
there goes another black girl lost!

Nate thank you for posting this for me...nice to read this poem once again...it really touched my heart...it is a short story in itself..
A young woman away from home at college..
she starts hanging out with the wrong crowd.
soon drinking and drugs entice her..
she ends up working in a strip club to support her habit..
Its sad to tell but I have know women almost exactly like her and it is a very hard road to walk...I know one that recovered and eventually went back to this lifestyle...
I was going to write a piece similar in some ways to this poem but so far I have not been able to complete it...due to the emotional impact on me and the seriousness of the subject matter..perhaps I will write it as a comedy...what I have written so far is too serious for me...you did a fabulous job of presenting your poem...glad to see it again.  How is the Black Girl Lost doing
now?..James

Thanks for responding to my post, Jimmy.
The black girl eventually was led to the bible by an old friend as she started going to church. Afer finding the Lord, she's know back in school looking to finish her degree.

Nate I am smiling now...I always enjoy the way God keeps reaching out to us with his Love and compassion and the incredible way he uses our friends and acquaintences for this purpose.   James

I'm smiling too because, there's one girl who's back on track towards a better life.
Thanks for posting again and I look forward to reading more of your poetry.

This is a fine story/poem, and the fact that it is true makes it all the better. Were it not for your own personal experience with this girl, unfortunately there are so many like her...so the poem would still touch life. I thank you, also, for writing and posting it, and James, thanks for requesting it...I had not had the pleasure before now.
