Between a laugh and a tear...

Heroes of the Flame

Acrid smoke stings tear filled eyes
An eerie gloom pervades the skies
Air comes alive with burning embers
Searing heat, these things I remember

The flames erupting through the gloom
With deafening roar and flaming plume
Hypnotically dancing through the trees
Catch you unaware if you're slow to see

A beautiful, dangerous, and terrifying sight
An awesome force, Mother Nature's might
Awakened and loosed, won't be controlled
Leaves a blackened landscape, charred and cold

Smell singed hair, feel blistered skin
This courageous fight, one must win
They'll stand there, fear in their eyes
And pray for relief, looking to the skies

God grant me the serenity to accept the people I cannot change, the courage to change the one I can, and the wisdom to know it's me. ~Unknown

You've written such realism into this piece. I agree with Paula...it's a moving tribute.

A great piece you've written here! This piece deserved some recognition because sometimes, I think that firefightrs sometimes don't get the recognition they deserve.

Paula...yes, they desrve all our support and praise. Thanks!

Claire....As always, I thankyou! When you are out there in the line it is all too real, frightenly so!!

Nathan...I agree, they don't get the recognition. Their lives are put at risk daily, ordinary Men and Women that do extraordinary things, heroes one and all!

Janet....LOL, a suprise, yes! as to if it is nice or not,well....   My angel convinced me to do it, as only our butterfly could.

Your comments are always valued, I'm happy I could convey those images to everyone! Thankyou!

Gemini....Thankyou for reading, I'm glad you enjoyed this piece!
