Where It Began

Father Zeus, Mother Mnemosyne
King of gods wed goddess of memory
to them the daughters nine were born
the last, daughter of dance, Terpischore.

Calliope, Erato, Euterpe
all preferred forms of poetry
Melpomene, Thalia, Clio were three
one of drama, one comedic, one of history,
Urania she cherished her astronomy
Polyhymnia loved sacred song, you see.

Nine muses sang in choir renown
to banish thee of all grief and sorrow
call upon thy Muse of choice
to look into and upon the morrow.

To thine dream state they will come
in sweet sing song of visions hum
upon the lyre and carillon their voices swell
till you utter enigmatically from the well
of poetic prose they left in spirit's spell

and thee, as recipient, let quill briskly flow
as to thee thy muse laid the seed of know.

Sunshine. . .

There are words for me to tell you how I feel about this poem. . . but I just can't think of them right now. . .

Absolutely amazing. . . simply beautiful. . .

Mark, my friend, take a book, any book, read, and thereon expound...

and you, too, can make attempts at becoming a Passionate Poet. [And that's the preacher talking to the choir! LOL!]

Oh, my friend~

Somehow I missed this one ....
The tale of the muses so musical to my heart.

Erato and Euterpe are my favorite muse characters .... but each brings a special
song to my heart.

Thank you for this lovely telling.
I will cherish it.

Karilea this is a classic about the classics. Very appropriate style and well expressed lines that adapt to the content perfectly... you are just getting better all the time.

GOOD WRITING!
