Quietly she sat in her finest lace
softly touching her powered face
she touched the satin ribbons in her hair
wondering if he really cared

Watching the candle burn
she touched the single rose pressed in a book
she needed to take one last look
longing to feel his tender kiss
she traced her lips with her fingertip

As the candle burns low
she swallows her tears
seems she's waited a thousand years
slowly she pulls the ribbons from her hair
fallen lace everywhere

she sank to the floor in dispair
where naked she lay
clutching the rose in her hand
dried petals everywhere
softly she weeps
waiting for sleep

mental pictures of 'delta dawn' come to mind - but your portrait - is far more tender and touching - beautifully done BR

BloomingRose~
Oh, how delicately adorned is your verse.
Just splendid.
