For those of you who don't know, my husband and I own a flower shop and I was the delivery girl today...107 degrees...and the asphault melting.)

Delivery Girl Blues

Breathe in this cloudless day
and trace the line that San Gabriel makes
across the sky with that thatch of trees
so familiar
that its name is home

trace the line of river
moss slow and torpid bath
to the sea its dig has creased the earth
but today it seeps into the clay
succumbs to degrees of heat
blows dust from its froth

So many snakes cross the land
curved and breathless and exhausted
from the fumes of movement
take me oh treacherous path
take me oh circled overpass
across this nape of rush hour
down down to the sea to find
the cool fingers of fog
touch my heat

I would the sand be my shoes
and the horizon be Pacific sunset
and the sounds of seagulls my guitar
for my heart is the dance
and my song is filling up for midnight
and the voice that fans my heart
to whisper and feather its curve
is the road that leads to you.

You find inspiration (or is that perspiration ?)
at every corner ! !
You're adorable !

I can see it now ...

Hi Martie...
I really enjoyed this one, but
don't know how you keep the
             flowers from wilting!!!!!!!!!!
I used to pack and ship glads
             from Oregon....loved that job,
             with all it's color!

                  Great writing, as usual!!

Today is a gift....
That is why they call it
'the Present'!

The temp hasn't gone over 95 here this week - but the index has gone over 100  because of high humidity. I'm grateful for AC - in my hour commute - at work - and at home. getting out of the car to have glasses fog almost instantly. so I well understand - what you did today ~S~ and loved the transmutations

Marge--Puddles of Martie to you, silly silly sis...hope you can get you post posted...

Sunny--In the shop everything is refrigerated, but on the road, it's just an air conditioned van...and on the front porch, well....

Thanks Wil, for your understanding.  I think your heat is wetter then mine.

I know your heat well as I lived in it for 18 years....but I would trade you places in one swift scent of a rose if given the chance.  The humidity here along with the 99 plus heat is a killer for sure.  Thank GM for AC in my Chevy.  Chevy truck that is.......pure gold.....better than a ford for sure....(oops sorry I couldn't resist)

OHHH yeah,  I got so carried away in my Ford bashing that I forgot to tell you....not that I need to because you already know....but I just loved your poem and I delight in depth of presence in all you write.

"to the sea its dig has creased the earth"

Yes, Martie, I must concur with Miss Marge...this is so very "you" and I really enjoyed it.

~ Mark, I'll keep my 2000 Toreador Red Ford Windstar, thank you very much!
