Fairytales

She dreamed of castles and knights
and filled her head with fairytales;
wishing all her dreams would come true.
He spoke of love and faith
as he worked his way into her heart
and wrote her life with his words.

She read his tender words
of dragons and noble knights
and opened up her hardened heart.
He listened to her fairytales
and rebuilt her shattered faith
by proving that his love was true.

It was hard for her to imagine love so true,
but she found safety and comfort in his words
and little by little, she rebuilt her faith.
He told her that he’d be her knight
and reality could be better than fairytales
if only she would give him her heart.

So she offered up her fragile heart
to him in a love that was true
and together, they believed in fairytales.
He wrote of love, in many words,
and fought her fears with the courage of a knight
and never once betrayed her faith.

She learned the difference between faith
and trust that comes from the heart.
Soon, he realized being a knight
meant not only being brave, but also true;
and that anyone can say the words,
but not everyone believes in fairytales.

So they created their own fairytales
based on true love and faith.
They learned not only to say the words,
but to say, and mean, them from their heart.
They learned together that dreams come true
for ordinary people and not just princesses and knights.

He may not fight dragons, but he speaks her life in his words, and he’s her knight.
She may not be a princess, but she knows all about faith and her heart is true.
And sometimes, fairytales are all just a matter of what we feel in our heart.

Hoot~
So delicately told.
I like diminutive fairytales.

'And sometimes, fairytales are all just
a matter of what we feel in our heart.'

Perfect ending ! !

Ruth, stories like this do seem like fairy tales...but somehow, I still try to believe. So lovely how you've shared this tale.

Ah, my favorite kind of story. So the princess can indeed find her knight. I will remain hopeful, then. Perfectly glorious poem.
