My Heart is Not a Fortress

My heart is not a fortress made of steel
Hidden behind a mountain of stone
It is not merely passing through this life
Wishing to be left silently alone

My heart will bend beneath the gusts
As would a cattail in an early Easter wind
It will bow to love and friendship
Without an army of protection to defend

My heart will welcome all at the door
With no care of reservation  or greed
The key of honesty is all  that it takes
It is the only key that you will ever need

My heart is not here to be used and trampled on
It will not rest silent if you are here to mock
All you must do is treat it with respect
And its gift to you will be love solid as a rock

My heart is not a fortress of made of steel
Protected from life’s curious eye
It is here waiting…patiently as it can
So please come on in and give our love a try

Hi Mark....
This was so very special, and I
dearly love your writing. You put
your heart into it, and it comes
back out as a gift to the reader.
                  What a pleasure!!

Today is a gift....
That is why they call it
'the Present'!

to those who are too blind to see...
it is their loss...
I know...you know...
your hearts gonna be just fine..I promise..

Mark*
The beauty of this is not the words but the
depth of heart that you wrote this with
showing perfectly the picture of your heart
for those that are willing to take a closer
look.  As my sweet SS penned.....anyone
else...well it's their loss!!  Yes you will
come out on top....with a heart like
yours...you'll be soaring soon~  Beautiful
writing of a man that I was wise enough to
adopt as my brother in poetry~

Mark, you've got a sweet poem here that once read one wants to re-read to capture every essence.

Ditto to the compliments by passion friends above, I couldn't say it any better!

Mark-

You captured what a true friend's heart would be!

'My heart will bend beneath the gusts
As would a cattail in an early Easter wind
It will bow to love and friendship
Without an army of protection to defend'

'My heart is not here to be used and trampled on
It will not rest silent if you are here to mock
All you must do is treat it with respect
And its gift to you will be love solid as a rock'

How I love these lines... you described it so beautifully!

Martie- Thank you so much but don't you gotta ask yourself if a guy can really be that sweet?lol   You have made this cowboy blush.

Coco-you said it better just by the re-reading and I thank you so much for that.

Artistic-I am glad you enjoyed it and I love it when someone points out the part they like the best.  Thank you much.

Denise-I am so excited for you.  I know I love my prints to no end.  Have you found the cross and all his wife's initials yet?  You will enjoy your print daily I know because I have that one and it is beautiful as is all his works.  Thank you much for the reply and remembering to let me know when you got your print...

Mark, your poem is lovely...just as everyone has said. What I love most about it, however, is how it has prompted me to think about my own heart and the fortress that might surround it. Thank you for moving me with the sincerity and candor of your words tonight.

Claire-Thank you much and if I could tell you my struggles of opening my fortress to the public I would...but that would take a lifetime....I have a couple of dear friends who have helped me to this point....don't let your love be locked away unseen..you have too much to give.

Kethry---those words will do just fine and I thank you sincerly for them.

Jenn E-Thank you for your kind words and also thank you for seeing what is in my words and getting to know a little of me through them.  Your replies to me are always so tender and sincere and I cherish them.

Maureen- I am glad you could see them...thank you.

You write openly, and that's what makes your poem so appealing. You're not afraid to say what's in your heart.
This is a wonderful poem

Denise-You do know that each painting has a number near the signature or directly opposite to tell you how many "n"'s you are looking for.  Sometimes they are in a heart and sometimes not.  Look among bricks, stone, fences, piers, and the such.  Not all of the pieces have them in obvious places but in looking for them you will #1 inevitably find the cross and #2 you will find an enjoyment from the painting that you will never forget.  So much magic and spirituality in his works.  good luck!

PS-look to 300 hundred yards to a kiss for more on the cross!  happy hunting!!!!!

Yes, Mark, this one has seven n's, I believe. I'll keep looking! There is much spirituality in his work, I agree. That's why I love it so much! ......now the hunt continues! Thanks for the clues!
