Forget them not

The faceless individuals in
The song of voices in the wind
Which carries from shore to shore
Silenced forevermore

Their echoes grow further apart
Blood thinned through countless hearts
Fading sunsets into twilight
Their day forgotten through lost sight
Holding the flame aloft once more
Silenced forevermore

Carved in sand, a debt half-paid
Wreathes of green carefully laid
With trembling hands and tear dried eyes
Half the debt paid with all their lives
Clasping intertwining fingers to implore
Silenced forevermore

Tributes stacked upon vain stone
Lying in trodden fields all alone
Etched there infinite names
Only there are they all the same
Their youth a rising, raging, roar
Silenced forevermore

Forget them not

For they one day could be you
Wrapped in red, white and blue
Lessons not learned before
Silenced forevermore

We shall not forget them, or we too will be forgotten.  Nice poem.

A great tribute and a lasting message that we not forget the lessons for which we've paid so dearly.  Terrific!

With writing like this. . . we shall indeed not. . .

Well done my friend. . .

having spent ten years as a military spouse and hearing day after day how unnecessary the military is, what a drain on our resources...yet seeing these men and women risk everything...well I just want to say THANK YOU
