Why must I always pen in rhyme?
To write free verse is not a crime,
Yet I suffer, cruel, vile curse,
To ever muse in rhyming verse.

Why must at night, I always dream,
Of gently flowing mountain stream,
Of heaven's glow, and Luna's beam,
Please stop the rhyme, I want to scream.

Perhaps as babe, was dropped on head,
Or maybe 'cause, was bottle fed?
Why must my words, sound so alike,
What is wrong with odist Mike?

The time has come to break away,
Of curse that holds me in its sway,
Or hold my breath, til I turn purple,
I love French toast, with maple syrple.

The Forest  (my one and only attempt as free verse)

He stood alone
Amidst the tranquil wonder of the forest
An unsatisfied yearning
To be touched by the freshening breeze
Would he hear
The intonations of the whispering wind
And be sated?
Enveloped by the magnetic charms of the wild?
He felt the gentle touch of
Silken lips
Softly pressed against his brow
Soothing warmth
Of elfin graces and earthly splendor.
He had sought
Beneath the heaven's shining stars
And he found
Amongst the forest, amid the feral creatures
Hearts desire.

Fly free Mike, fly free...

But you're great at both, so why not do both?

Now that didn't hurt at all, did it...and it was beautiful!!!  Write what your heart tells you to write, cause you got the grace for any kind of dance.

Martini, thanks for the wow... I like the way you reply, *smile*
allan,  nope... free verse is an alien creature to me... enjoy others immensely, but my mind operates otherwise.  Thanks for the comment.
Martie, if I could dance with words as you do my friend, my dance card would be full to the brim of grace.
Liz, OMG...hehe love the reply. danke.

To find heart's desire is poetry unto itself, whether portrayed in rhyme or riot. You are a natural with both, my friend.  Loved the rhyme, loved the riot.

Mike~

Your phrases held in great esteem
fall gently to the page ...
Venture into the land of free
but never forget your rhyming rage !

For it is YOU and is enjoyed
by all who read the rhyming verse.
Settle back and just relax ...
To confuse the muse - could be worse !
