Is love but a delusion,
Creation of man's mind?
Nay, love is an illusion,
A thought by gods divined.

Illusion is reality,
If born from in a heart,
Becoming one existence,
Once two that were apart.

Love is called a passion's dance,
I know that is not true,
For oft as not, is just a glance,
That says, dear, I love you.

Love is waking in the night,
And knowing something's wrong,
Sensing that the one you love,
Is not where she belongs.

Going in the other room,
And walking to her chair,
Reaching out without a word,
And touching on her hair.

Love is when you aren't around,
Keeping you inside,
Feeling sorrow and your pain,
The day your father died.

Love is changing diapers,
Mending skinned up knees,
Teaching children manners,
To ask for pretty please.

College bound with tears farewell,
Once more an empty nest,
I fall asleep with you each night,
Knowing I've been blessed.

For nine and twenty wond'rous years,
You have been my wife,
Forever and forevermore,
You are my love, my life.

Is love but an illusion,
Existing in my mind?
You are my reality,
A love that gods divined.

Divine thoughts, devined verse, my friend. Loved this.

Mike, you have brought tears to my eyes with this loving poem...and that doesn't happen often...this is so honest and real...and human.  Your wife is very lucky to have your love and we are lucky that you are able to express it so perfectly.

This is a wonderful tribute to the realities of love as it grows into maturity. The way love was meant to be....accepting the responsibilities of being in love creates a lasting bond that is as powerful as death.
I agree it is a divine arrangement.
Great writing!

I'm working on a poem called Back To Monogamy it's a reflection on the results of the new morality that has pervaded the mindset of society.

Mike...
This is a beautiful poem and tribute from your heart to your wife of 29 years.
It's so nice to see people still in love and happy.  You are both very, very lucky.

           Thank you for sharing this!

You raised gooseflesh on my arms with this piece Tim. You are exceptionally lucky to have found one to share this with for life. This is what I have been looking for (and thought I had found once). Great writing my friend.

... Either I've read this, or you're writing more great poems about your divine marriage... Nice job, Mike..
