Purple Haze

Beer.
Now there's a thought.
One leads to two.
Two to three.
Pretty soon
six,
ten.
But that only happens
when I'm thinking of you.
And sometimes,
just once in awhile,
I even smile again
when I see you
in that purple haze,
grinning back at me,
like some damn
holographic projection
of flesh,
blood,
and bone.
Damnit!
All those years
of saying "seatbelts,
buckle your seatbelts"
gone in one stupid lapse,
one forgetful moment,
and they were picking bits of you
off the windshield,
the hood,
the street,
and I'm kneeling
at the foot of your grave,
wanting to tear my heart out.
Yeah,
beer,
lots of beer,
drowning in beer,
killing myself…
with you.

There is no way for me to take your pain away...all I can do is say you can talk to me.

Thank you very much for your concerned offer, my friend, but although this is a slice of life, it's not mine.

Thanks again,

~J,...just wanted to let you know that I read this and that I'll be back. *Sigh*. It's way too real for me right now. Take care. *Peace.

jwesley, this is amazing writing. I felt that undesolving regreful pain that would occure if this happened to me. I can't imagine losing close loved one this way. You can't even say your sorry to them, atleast not on this plane. Very powerful.

Thanks, Haleyja, for the read and thoughts...
and Spitfire, I understand.

A note here: This piece actually orginated with my 19 year old next door neighbor,in mind, whom went through the windshield of his car, 5 months ago, on my daughter's birthday, and is still in a coma.  It's also in memory of a girl my daughter knew in high school who did the same thing, two years ago, but is now  " A Cross At The Side Of The Road". Neither of them had their seatbelts on, and neither accident caused serious injury to those that did.

For those of you with small children, I starting teaching my kids when they were babies, that seatbelts were necessary.  When they were strapped in, we told them what we were doing and why, and when they understood the function and could do it themselves, we stressed it each time we entered the car. Now it's automatic with them and they stress it to their own passengers (mine are 19 & 18) and will not move the car till all are buckled in.

It's not a cure all, but does save lives.
