Molly Says ... Daddy's Don't
~*Marge Tindal*~

I got a secret
I got a secret

... 'member when you said
a secret is something special
you share with a friend ?

Well, Molly says, daddy's don't
'sposed to touch, like you do me
Molly says it's not nice
It's not the way it should be

Molly says I should tell big people
- but I won't
Don't worry daddy
it's still our little secret
... 'cept for Molly
she's my special friend

See, Daddy, I'm not the only one
who thinks that you
shouldn't keep touching
me like you do

Molly won't tell
she's my special friend
Don't cry, daddy
Don't do it no more
okay, daddy ?

I still love you, my daddy
I'm still your special girl
Don't do it no more
okay, daddy ?

'Cause Molly says
daddy's don't

I got a secret
I got a secret

*Her name is Amber. She's six years old.
She doesn't have to keep the secret anymore cause Molly's daddy said
'A secret is something you share ... with people you love.'
Molly told 'big people' ...
Amber is now in a safe place and Molly is still her best friend.

Marge....
This poem should be published and
used for the different societies that
work to protect children..I am serious!
You took a subject that is so very
hard to talk about, and brought it
into the light in a way that everyone
        can understand, without backing away
        from it.
I applaud you, and cannot say
          other words except,
                 Thank you!

I have but one goal in
life.........
To make you smile!

Marge- Thank-you for taking this sensitive subject and bringing it forward. I agree with Sunny1 it should be used for helping kids understand that they can tell someone. I wish this was around for one of my relatives who was abused. It may have helped her speak out sooner.
Bless you Marge.

This is so wonderfully written and on such a very sensitive subject.....I think it should be posted around all your local schools and I am sure that the school would be willing to consider this.  You amaze me every day.

Oh Marge, How wonderfully you have written on such a sad subject.  I have to agree with the others and say that this should be where kids can read it.  What a terrific job you have done with this.  Bonnie

Marge,
I agree with all the posts above! You amaze me with your love and compassion..

I have wanted to write a poem about child abuse but it hasn't gone well (actually nothing is going well as far as being able to write) but I wanted to use "Little Boy Blue" as the title... maybe someday it will come to me..

*Those of you who know me -
are aware of how strongly I advocate listening to the children.

This is a true story from a group that I mentor.

I thank the good Lord that Molly's dad 'listens' ...
she told him the secret and after authorities intervened ...
Amber now lives with her maternal grandmother and the father is serving a probationary period and is not permitted visitation with his daughter.

Sudhir, PoutPrincess, ButterfliesDC, Eloise,
KitKat, MarkB, Kethry, Bonnie and Lori ...
please know that I appreciate your thoughts
from the bottom of my heart.

Sadly the story is repeated all over this
land every hour of everyday.
That isn't a pretty thought ...
but through awareness perhaps we can all make a difference.

Print it and share it if you like.
Awareness only helps ... if we all help.
Thank you all.

Oh Marge, this was so painful!  I would like to say that I've never encountered this, but working in the criminal justice system as well as being a preschool director, I've seen this all too often.  And you are so right when you say that we must listen to children.  Contrary to what people want to believe, children do not often lie about things like this so we need to pay attention to what they are saying.  Thank you for writing this piece!!

but someone must ... know what I mean ?

Oh, you are so right.

Thank you for the kind words.
I pray that the children's voices are heard.
Through more conscientious awareness programs, they can be reached.

God gives us the wings of 'earth angels' ...
to touch the children of this world with
caring hearts.

~Marge,...I've told you this time and time again,...and I'll tell ya again. You have a huge heart. It sends out these rays of love and care and comfort all over. Ooh how I admire that. This is powerful writing on a very sore subject. *sigh*,...I wish you could see my face right now. Take care. *Peace.

This is very heart breaking......you have a beautiful heart. I am so glad she is safe. This was very hard for me to read as I have a very special friend who's loved one was also invaded and it is very hard on all. We must teach our children to tell.........try our hardest to protect them. Very nice read.

Marge-

You wrote about such a sensitive subject so beautifully and delicately.  Well done.  I have to agree with everyone else and let it be used for adovocation of such a delicate matter.

I agree with you.
We need to let children know at the earliest
age that 'secrets' are for SHARING with other people.
It's difficult to get them to understand,
when someone else is telling them to 'keep'
the secret.
Thank you for your thoughts.

Artistic/Lizzie~
Thank you for your comments.
I shared this with two groups yesterday -
they are all behind getting it distributed
to other mentoring groups.

*My spirit is warmed by the comments from each of you.
If it touches even one child - or survivor
of such abuse ... it's done it's job.

Oh Marge, you've phrased this in a sensitive and caring way. Words of wisdom raised through poetic form ... such a tragedy when issues like this come to light. Nicely worded.

Best wishes,
/Kit

I received an E-mail this morn asking me to read this poem, Im sorry I missed it before.
all my puter probs has me behind ....
this poem touches me deeply for many reasons.
I have written and posted on this subject before as is a personal cause of mine..
I am always fearful of bringing up old pain for someone when they read my words...
but in the same thought I know we MUST
talk about this and educate or it will
never end. There was so much pain vented and
released in this room when the child abuse
challenge was posted back in April...
it was a painful reminder how many of us here
carry this with us each day.
Sorry to go on so...as i said this subject effects me deeply.
thank you for helping to not let it be a---
"dirty little secret"...
no child should carry this shame
very touching work Margie...
your halo shines extra bright today
love ya
jm

There are places inside our souls -
that have never been touched.
There are places inside our hearts -
that need to be loved this much.

Marge,

This is one of your best.  You did a wonderful job writing about a subject that most will only discuss in hushed whispers.  I applaud you for posting this.  It's a great poem.

I appreciate your reply and your thoughts.

Thank you for such insight into
this subject.
We all have to do our part to help.
Working for and with children who have
had to keep the 'secret' for too long.

Auguste~
Thank you for sharing those kind words.
I feel an obligation to reach out
and help tell the stories of the children.
