What would make my soul smile?
Kelly S. McDonald

A homeless old man, offered a warm bed to sleep
A lost child now found, no longer to weep
Watching lonely old Stan and his future wife meet
A poor hungry child, with more than enough to eat

That would make my soul smile

Grandma up from her wheel chair, dancing around
A deaf woman suddenly hearing, a beautiful sound
An old man who can’t speak, whispers my name
Little Timmy who’s blind, watching the baseball game

That would make my soul smile

Uncle Harry’s lungs healthy like a boy of six-teen
Violence among children in schools, never to be seen
Terminally ill Judy, now told she’s sure to live
Relief of her family and friends, and the thanks they do give

That would make my soul smile

Working at being a better person each and every day
Believing every good gesture, amounts in a big way
Everyone helping each other, kindness is free
Seeing many, many things, I may never see

That would make my soul smile

You can give without loving but you cannot love without giving
There is no danger of developing eye-strain from looking on the bright side of things

KellSue~

'Working at being a better person
each and every day
Believing every good gesture,
amounts in a big way
Everyone helping each other,
kindness is free
Seeing many, many things,
I may never see'

And let it begin with me ....

Thank you for a poignant reminder of
'What would make my soul smile'

Kelly,

I agree with Kit when she called it a warming poem.  It is a shame..as you said "Seeing many, many things, I may never see".. we all have to strive to make these things happen

Kit ~ Thank you!  I'm so glad my poem warmed your soul... and a beautiful soul it is!

Marge ~ I love the line you added "and let it begin with me..." I wish I'd thought of that!  Thank you for taking the time to read!

rosepetals ~ If we all strive together, it will be a much happier place!    I'm glad you liked it.

Bill ~ I'm glad you came by too!  Thank you for stopping and commenting!!

What an uplifting poem, I really enjoyed this.... I have to agree, true happiness is not measured by the "things" that you accrue but rather by the kindness and compassion that you bestow upon others.
Nice work!
