  Ode to the poet

You have written your heart
on vellum galore
decorated lined paper
with the moon and more

You have dreamed in velvet
and graced the damp sand
with castles and footprints
and touching of hands

You have wept on the newsprint
dark tears stain each page
and you’ve colored the backdrop
of a life and a stage

Each moment so precious
has only begun
to measure the field
and plant seeds in the sun

You fear time is wasting
for each precious breath
that succumbs to the minute
brings you closer to rest

Yet the dew on the grass
and the sweet smell of rain
take time to consider
take time to explain

As the sun wraps each day
with events that are new
and stars paint the night
soon another year’s through

So you gather the gleanings
from poetry’s call
and you shout to the mountains
you sing with the falls

then long down the road
that is winding and still
you still will be walking
with paper and quill.

Oh Martie ... bravo!!! Beautifully phrased ... such incredible insight into the mind of a poet, and rightfully so, for 'tis written from the talented hand of one whose poetic work I so enjoy. Well done!

Martie,
So, so, true you do write about the poet. All of these things have I done, with tears nevertheless at times. Thanks for sharing.

Martie~
My friend, what a beautiful ode.
You've touched us all with your magic.
Captured the essence of just who we are.
Love you .....
Love your work.

but when she does its divine
I know she'd rather not ...

Gosh...I'm amazed to get so many responses to this poem, because as JM said, I don't really like to rhyme...and when I do, I don't feel like it sounds right...just not me.  So thanks everyone...you have helped my rhyming ego, if there is one.

Martie, I can assure you that it sounds right! Your rhyme is grand here, my dear, and the sentiment, sweet truth. Loved it!

my my my....I was saving this for my early morning romp through Passions because it is not often that you treat us with your words of rhyme......I agree with the rest when I say you can and you do it so well....but I will take a Martie original anyday and anyway rhyme or not.  Beautiful verse and well worth the waiting for my morning to begin with.
