Meadow Days

With shaded eyes I cast my gaze
'pon memories of our meadow days
and in my lapse from present time
I travel there within my mind

To fancied frolics in the green
and lightened laughter, love serene
And  stirring moments in the sun
when hearts would merge, and beat as one

And in your arms, I breathed again
the fragrant spice of healing rain
And shelter's song, your serenade
in the meadow where our music played

But tender tones were not enough
and meadow's earth fell ragged, rough
And trust, uprooted, lay to waste
by hurtful acts and hands of haste

Soon meadow's blossoms failed to yield
as deeds betrayed the thriving field
And stems and stamen stiffly spoiled
as from deceit their leaves recoiled

And now I grow in ache and grief
Our meadow days of beauty, brief
The moistened earth replaced with sand
in memories of our loving land

Maureen, thank you for reading, being so kind in your response, and sharing your soft smiles with me.

Bill, what?? You almost passed up my poem?? *shaking head*
Then I am twice as pleased that "something" nudged you to read it!   Thank you, sincerely, Bill.

ethome, so pleased that you enjoyed this. I do strive toward acceptable meter when I write, and I thank you for noticing. You're so kind to let me know.

Martie, thank you, dear. I must agree with you, and yes,  I know this is a sad subject, but there it was, wanting to come out today. Sometimes I don't know whether to feel blessed or cursed by this thing we call poetry.

serenity, thank you so much for reading and letting me know so nicely that you enjoyed this .

Michael, thank you, my friend. I know you understand my need to write this piece.

Master Brian, I thank you for your kind and sapient counsel today...            ~~ and for liking my poem

Claire~
Anything with your name on it is
an automatic draw to me ...
I spotted this one this morning and
decided to save it to savor on the
'quilting hour'.

I'm so pleased with the gift I found -

'And in your arms, I breathed again
the fragrant spice of healing rain
And shelter's song, your serenade
in the meadow where our music played'

Even though there was a sadness to it ...
it was seemingly something you felt and
chose to share in such a beautiful way.

Your gifting is openly appreciated here.

Sudhir, your words here are always so kind...thank you.

Marge, thank you for the "savoring" my friend. Yes, I know it is sad, but there is often grief among the grinning, as Grandmother used to say. Thank you so for your thoughts.

Kit, you have such a nice way of letting one know when you've enjoyed a poem. Thank you so much for reading this .

Walt, yuh...life is wistful, to be sure. I'm glad you enjoyed this piece...thank you for letting me know.

kcl, you needn't be a critic to enjoy poetry, it's more a state of mind.   Thank you for your kind words and Welcome to Passions!

...grief in the grinning...

I like that. So true, but the same reversed..."grinning in the grief." Like this... heartfilled drama of days gone by. Those days make us who we are, mold our memories and give us a means for comparison. It would be hard to compare to an image like this one lady!

Also, loved the alliteration, liberaly spread, yet ne'r so much as to be an impediment to the flow as it rolls off the tongue.

Hugs m'friend.

I enjoyed reading this return to the meadow...it seems sometimes our lives is broken down into parts...we love...we hurt..we heal...we wait...we love again...
I can't wait for the love part to come back with all it pleasure and intensity...James

Paula, such kind and tender words ...thank you so much.

Chris, I so appreciate your critical read, and your sweet words, my friend. Hugs back.

James, yes, that is precisely how it is ... the cycle of life in the meadow. Thank you James, for reading and sharing your thoughts.
