Walking leisurely through the deep peaceful forest,
I am one with nature.
So attuned to everything around me.

I notice a little brown mouse
as it darts across my path,
quickly scurrying back to its home
underneath the deteriorating log nearby.

I sit down at the base of a shady oak tree,
to quietly partake of the beauty
and the serenity surrounding me.

I hear the chatter of two squirrels,
as they playfully chase each other
amongst the limbs above.

I listen, and in the distance
I hear the sound of a mourning dove,
as it calls longingly for its mate.

I arise and continue upon my way.
I haven't traveled far,
when I stumble upon a sparkling clear pond,
hidden within the depths of this pristine forest.

As I watch quietly, a deer emerges from the forest
and cautiously approaches the pond.
It lowers its magnificent head
to drink of the crystal clear water.

Its thirst quenched, it slowly wanders back
into the shadows of the forest
from which it came.

Deciding it's time to head back home,
I turn and proceed out of this natural wonder,
stopping to say a silent goodbye
to this small piece of God's country.

Like a "guided meditation", could practically hear every foot-fall, much like sunrise at my house...rabbits scamper at the edge of the wood, and owl flies home at crack of dawn, as if he'd heard, "last call..."

BamaPoet~
You thoughts are just perfect 'sun-catchers'
to hang in the window of those who do not
have these lovely sights to gaze upon.

I live in just such an astounding place
and wish everyone could take a walk through
the serenity of nature.

Thank you for sharing this piece.
