Ocean's Spell

And staring out upon the sea
she shifts atop the stones
the slippery edges christened
by each bracing blast of foam

And rouge has risen in her cheeks
and high her pulses race
as hissing winds so swiftly
thrash their kisses 'pon her face

And quick! she think she spies the ship
just there! beyond the swells
A knot of anguish grips her throat
No ship, just ocean's spell

It's eighty days upon these rocks
and eighty one 'twill be
She lowers head in grief relived
a shadow toward the sea

And stepping slowly from her perch
her skirts a sodden train
she slogs the length of shore to home
as it begins to rain

She walks upon cold barren shore,
as leaps from rock to rock,
While on the waves the schooner sails,
no harbor which to dock.
Eighty days in pounding waves,
a'drift in moaning sea,
Howling chorus of the deep,
Poseidon's melancholy.
Whilst in her bed, she weeps alone,
he sails to Neptune's grave,
Silent tomb 'neath whitecapped foam,
two hearts will soon enslave.

you do possess a unique and special poetic talent my friend.

Sunshine, you are indeed aptly named (or pseudonymed, at least). Thank you for your kindness and positive reply.

Michael, I had just an inkling that you might enjoy this one. Thank you, my friend. Your encouragement is a treasure to me.

Butterflies, your "wow" made my day...thank you!

Martie, I thank you, sincerely, for your kind natured words, and for being able to enjoy my sad poems. I am one of your biggest fans, my friend.

Mike, I have awakened in Heaven, and you have deposited me there. How you can write! This is classic verse, my friend, and I thank you humbly for such a gifting.

Eloise, thank you so much for reading and leaving such kind words for me.

Sven, I believe they have medication for that. (Teasing!) Sven, knowing that my words speak to you in some way just really delights me. Thank you, my friend.

Meadowmuse that is incredibly beautiful work.
The mood of the wait is unbelievable and the scenic word pictures you use are just wonderful.

Breathtaking...what a scene, I am very envious yet equally in deep admiration of the words that flow from your pen. I eagerly await the next dazzling piece.

Claire~
This is exquisite ...

I was reminded of a lighthouse within the heart ... searching.

Unique is your talent for nostalgic melancholy.

A double treat here for sure.

Claire...
I grew up on the ocean, and spent
many years sitting on the rocks
        watching the ships.
I truly love the way you wrote
this!!   It brought back a few
        memories..........

I have but one goal in
life.........
To make you smile!

Mark, thank you! I must concur with M.Cousteau, fully.

ethome, your response is so kind. I'm glad you found something to enjoy in this piece, and I thank you for letting me know.

Brian, thank you. Your enthusiasm is wonderful. I haven't written anything all day, so I am eagerly awaiting the next piece right along beside you! Thanks, dear.

Miss Marge, thank you for reading, my friend. Yes, isn't Mike's poem absolutely stunning? He has such a knack for brilliance, doesn't he? I remain in awe of his art.

Sunny, how wonderful that you were reminded of pleasant times beside the sea by my little poem. Thank you for letting me know this.
