The Ring of Gold

A ring of gold with stone of blue
And diamonds sparkling round
A perfect present for his daughter
He had sought and found

Her olive skin enhanced the gold
Like fragrance in a breeze
The diamonds shone through blue of stone
Like sun in coral seas

But brighter than the diamonds
Was the laughter in her eyes
A happiness glowed through the tears
So taken by surprise

For she knew he had little time
To stay upon the earth
And any gift he gave in love
Was more than gold in worth

And so she wears the ring of gold
With shimmering stone of blue
A symbol of a father’s love
Much deeper than she knew

As blue as island waters
In her father’s place of birth
She looks into the stone of blue
And sees his love on earth

It glistens like his sparkling eyes
The bluest blue she’s seen
Reminds her of the place he loved
Of blue aquamarine

Forever will his love shine though
The diamond’s glittering beams
In stone of tropic water blue
She sees him in her dreams

What a moving read! Excellent job. Such a simple gift with such long reaching arms of comfort. You captured the idea amazingly well...

With a long held breath given dark freedom, the single flame in sorrow's window flickers out.

Sy and Martie,
Thanks for those kind words. I miss you both, with not much time for Passions these days

Bill, Thank you for your comments. This is a true poem, a little happening this week.

Elizabeth~
'A little happening' ....
such magnitude for father and daughter
captured in a mother's graceful poetry.

'A little happening' that I'm thankful
you shared with us.
Missing you ... but understanding ...
deeply understanding.

Love you, my friend.

Liz: I am so touched by the way you have poetically captured a moment that I know is very precious indeed. Love and prayers, ellie

Summers haunting melody
that awakens
the butterflies,
calling them to join
the dance
in their silent song
of praise to God.

As always,I come back with a memory that you sparked off Liz..

Years ago, when my father and I made up, he mellowed and learning that I had my own principles and integrity and he shouting would make no difference...and on a birthday, I can't remember which but likely 22 or 23 cause my 20th was a charm bracelet, my 21st was a stereo and so I guess it was my 23rd, he sent off to buy me an Austrian crystal heart with a diamond centerpeice...I still have it but both parts are now separate but still rapped in tissue and now and again I take them out of my little jewel box with the ballerina that dances to Chopin and review the love contained within...

I wish I could tell him how m,uch I love him now although I didn't then...

HUSG

Beautiful and brought back such a lovely memory of being loved.

Rainbow, I love it when you tell bits of your life like that. I've tried piecing them together, but there must be too many pieces missimg. Thanks for your memories.

Elizabeth, if you never knew one thing, know this: what you do in your poetry is to bring all people together...we are all different and unique...you tell us we are all uniquely different.

Thank you.
