The old woman sits at the table alone...
She looks around at all the things they
gathered to make this house their home...
She looks back on their marriage, like a
stranger peeking in on someone else's life..
She's been many things: a daughter, a mother,
       a woman, and....oh, yes....a wife......

Her children have all left her to herself...
But she still dusts the pictures that look
       back from that old shelf...
The children never visit or write..it's like
somehow they don't exist at all...
But in her memory, she sees them as her babies,
it doesn't seem that long ago they were
                    small......

The old woman sits there in silence...
She sees his face and wonders why he was
                  taken away...
Many years have gone since then, but he is
             still her love today...
She knows somewhere in time they'll meet again..
and that puts a young girl's smile on her face..
                She's not afraid...
For whatever life may hold in store,
She'll meet it with her own
           particular kind of grace......

i often find myself fearing for the future..of being left alone in the end..old and disheartened...but this beautiful poem does bring a spark of hope...and i do hope that i too can  grow old with "a particular kind of grace"!

Hi Tess....
           I've always thought that the
ending was the most important part...
Maybe it's the same with how we live?
Thank you and I'm glad you
                 enjoyed this!

Hi Bonnie...
If we have nothing else in the

Hi Sunny,
All I can do is to sit back, read what you have written, reflect, and enjoy. And by the way, there is a lot of room in back of that "Big green truck" for a picnic basket, and a checkered table cloth.

Bill....
What kind of wine goes well with
     southern fried chicken, potato salad,
     homemade biscuits, garden veggies,
     and homemade strawberry-rhubarb pie??
Oh, yes, and I wanted to thank
     y'all for stopping by!!!

Loved your poem.  A true meaning to the words, "true love never dies nor does it fade away".

Sunny, this is a strikingly poignant moment, captured well from within and without. Lovely work!
